Following a short break, Virtual Forest Records are back with a 6-track EP by Fluid Matter, one of the three label founders.
Located on the more bassy side of their universe, Fluid Matter operates here between territories of leftfield bass, post-dubstep, and electro with hints of techno and UK Funky. A release definitely darker than most, deeply rooted in club aesthetics and dedicated to showing specks of light shining in the murkiest night.

Amsterdam based molecular biologist, producer and rising talent Teqmun debuts on Flippen Bits with five bits of his warm and uncannily organic sound. 

Organic Oscillations EP is a fresh blend of melancholic IDM, dreamy vocal chops, punchy rhythms and playful break-beat techno. The perfect representation of Teqmun’s approach to music: Energetic, highly emotional and musically wide-open, willing to take inspiration from all realms of contemporary music.
To complete the pack Pariah joins the party and delivers an excellent wobbling roller remix.

The nature inspired track titles of the EP establish a connection between the tracks and the organic world. 
The term - oscillations - refers to the rhythmic, wave-like patterns found in various biological processes such as the beating of a heart or the swaying of plants in the wind. Organic Oscillations suggests that the music captures the essence of these natural patterns, creating a sonic experience that resonates with the organic world.

While Aphid Walk refers to the infrastructural challenges and solutions of the insect world, Parachute Kernel is a seed that has developed a specific structure that allows for it to be carried by the wind. Balsa parallels the sounds of the track with the features of a kind of wood that goes by the same name: it’s one of the lightest woods we know yet incredibly solid. Blossom reminisces the different stages of a flower while developing (just like the track) and And Nettle Dweller, well, you have to be really brave to want to live on stinging nettles, rather appropriate to the stingy track that it is.

As I was experimenting with the M4L device Opal by Fors (highly recommended) I made this bell type sound that kept reminding me of Pev's signature sound. I kept adding more elements to the project, one thing led to another and I decided to fully embrace the clear similarity between what I was making and Pev's track.

Disclaimer: my track is not a 1:1 cover/rework since it wouldn't be that much fun for me to make and my ''version'' ended up being less percussive and a lot more reverb-y.

Also, half the track is created with Opal, hence the title.

Patrúin mark their long awaited return with Wastee, from Wastefellow. A trio of marble-cut dance tracks etched out of wonky bass-driven styles on the label’s first release since 2020.

Diolmhain Ingram Roche enjoys a cult-like status within Ireland’s underground. A polymath of electronic music, he’s primarily known for releasing experimental pop as Wastefellow and subsequent affiliation with Kojaque’s Soft Boy Records. In recent years, he’s led the no-nonsense band, Really Good Time and toured with them throughout the UK, EU and Ireland.

Amidst all this, Wastee has been Diolmhain’s guilty pleasure, a lesser-known project dedicated to strict dancefloor business. He debuted the alias with the 2017 ‘Cola’ EP on Lyxliv, which garnered attention from Vice, DJmag, and Apple Music. Wastee reappeared on the P.U.P. Volume 1 compilation in 2021.

After a two-year break from electronic music, Diolmhain returns, integrating the Wastee alias into his main project and creating his most substantial offering of club cuts yet. The final Wastee release, but the first of many more for Wastefellow, this marks his first outing with the cult Dublin label Patrúin, co-founded by Oli and Fes in 2017, which has been notably absent from release schedules since 2020 until now.

‘Haunt You Back’ shuffles its breaks-y deck amongst some angled drums and sprightly croons, temporarily loosening its grip to deal a dialled-up signal that bursts into pop-a-delic techno delirium. ‘Squished Activity’ swirls amongst the claps before nose diving into a sub-heavy broken beat undergrowth that blossoms into a divine club strut of heads-down attitude. Our finale is ‘Your One To Me’, a large chromatic 2 stepper that boasts anthemic vocal cuts and monolithic production chops for a large-and-in-charge closer.

Wastee is a vital extension of both Wastefellow’s musical being and Patruin’s label legacy, 3 exquisite dance tracks from a true talent and a welcome return for the imprint.

50% of profits from the release will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
