The second edition of the Rose Records limited 10" series comes courtesy of Junktion, whose releases on the likes of Outplay and Slow Town didn't only sell out at breakneck speed but also established him as one of Holland's biggest talents in discerning deephouse/disco circles.

Junktion does what he does best on this delightful little platter. The lolloping 'Running for Whatever' on the A is as infectious as they come, with loads of clever samples arranged over classy rolling drums and a deep, rubbery bassline. Flip over for Pale Blue Dot, a slightly tougher, trippier uptempo workout with spaced out pads, big drums, crisp hats and massive synth stabs that should whip up a real frenzy in a packed club. Killer pair of tunes from a producer that's very much on top of his game.

Next up on Aus Music is the welcome return of a good friend and label regular - the ever ascendant Marquis Hawkes. Having released 4 EPs on Aus thus far, he makes his return in the form of a blazing, floor-focused 2 track EP which sits neatly with previous outings on the label.

‘The Basement Is Burning’ takes it’s name from a near-fateful experience stemming from an electrical fire in Hawkes’ home which culminated in him and his family being evacuated from a 5th floor balcony. Having ensured the safety of his family, he made a dash across Berlin to make a 10am live show, a few days later with the power back on ‘The Basement Is Burning’ was born.

The title track kicks off with splashy, live drum samples that are armoured with electronic layers before a feel-good piano lick glides into the mix. Bursting synths are introduced before ducking strings chords bring the track to an ecstatic conclusion. ‘Tower Block Boogie’ then tumbles short funk samples through bold drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout.

Marquis Hawkes continues to supply quality, disco-infused house with ‘The Basement is Burning’ EP on AUS Music, featuring the euphoric and energetic title track.

It’s no surprise Marquis Hawkes is right at home on AUS Music, having released a collection of the label’s top EPs in the past two years, including ‘Chances’, ‘Doornroosje’ and ‘Love Precipitation’. Now he’s set to drop his second release on the imprint in 2017, showcasing more of his soulful and emotive material. 

‘The Basement is Burning’ leads off with a warm piano melody paired with a steady house beat which leads into a crescendo of blissful strings and synth. It’s interesting to note that the track was inspired by a distressing event in which his home caught fire and his family had to be rescued from a fifth floor balcony. Once he and his family were safe, Hawkes had to dash across Berlin to make it to a live show at 10am. A few days later, ‘The Basement is Burning’ was born.

‘The Basement is Burning’ EP is set for release May 26.

Part two in Alden Tyrell's latest project: "Vorm Variaties", a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. The "Vorm Variaties" tracks were a "Style Excercise" for Tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. Initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we found them so good that we were almost forced to start this series. All tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. All 5 "Variaties" are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with Alden Tyrell's sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.

As the filter opens, the landscape widens – laidback percussion, then soothing strings, before a powerful hit of bass and vocals, and we’re off. Two Tail’s ‘Willie Has A Hunch’, grooves along blissfully, before a spoken word sample comes to twist the meaning and flip the mood. ‘You’ve Got Me’, is an appropriate title for a Harry Parsons track where a percussive groove, staccato horns, and those handclaps grip the listener and never relinquish control the result being a thoroughly enjoyable 6 minutes of communal dancefloor goodness.

Tribal percussion ushers in Side B, as Alex Woolley begins to build ‘Walkin’ Away’ around a yearning and disheartened vocal sample. Despite the free-flowing instrumentation, the vocals maintain a subtle air of melancholy, which anchor this track in raw, remorseful emotion. Mr Lover Lover concludes proceedings with a confident swagger. ‘I Would (Like To Get To Know)’ flips Brandy’s ‘I Wanna Be Down’ into an enticing dancefloor shaker - the perfect closer.
