The fifth Redstone Press release comes from Glasgow based LWS, who is at the stepping off point of a soon-to-be prolific production career that has already drawn early support from the likes of Ben UFO, Elena Colombi and Surgeon. This is definitely a producer to keep two ears and eyes on.

The opener “Aerosol” showcases LWS’ flair for space, bass and catchy hooks with this stripped back percussive workout progressively morphing into a low end sound-system killer. The A2 “Spoker” is a far more chaotic and energetic affair, highlighting further LWS’ incredible detail for intricate, pulsating drum work, chopped vocal cuts and stretched out synths which draw you straight to the speaker. The B side contains two slower-paced and wonkier offerings. The groove-ridden and stumbling ‘“Chug Sequence”’ inexorably works its way into your mind via a mash of percussive hits, foreboding vocal whispers and rolling bass. Closing out the release is the slow burning “Rev Up”, LWS reverts to booming drums and stop/start beatwork that culminates in a rising, euphoric cacophony.

‘Everything Merged’ is 3024’s second series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program. At the beginning of the pandemic, label owner Martyn started forming a lively online community of artists, providing them with ideas and inspiration. This community grew larger and larger, and musicians started to connect both online and offline, across continents and genres. It resulted in the “It Was Always There” series of compilations from 2021, and countless independent releases, radio appearances and gigs, putting a host of artists on the map.

Working on the program made Martyn and partner Jeroen Erosie reconsider the purpose of running a record label in 2022. ‘Are we still interested in putting out records via the usual channels?’ Or should a label become more of an umbrella for various activities by a larger community, both online and IRL, with digital and physical products, in other words merge everything into one.

“Everything Merged vol. 1” features the awesome music of a group of 3024 alumni from across the globe, interpreting the post-pandemic phase of electronic music each in their individual ways. There are the contemporary percussive meditations of Adam 2, Solair, Klont and Brooklynite No Sir, the 90s garage and rave inspired music of Karis, Agôn, Slovenia’s Hatterri and Noise Casino from Colombia. The exuberant technicolorist bangers of Guava, Blu-e and Cress and the deep hypnotic explorations of India’s Chhabb, MarceauxMarceaux and The Exhausted.

This was another one of those rare moments when I listen to a straight up demo cold and just instantly know that it’s completely and utterly right for the label. Qant ( @qqantt ) served me up some eyes down, impeccably produced bass heavy slices of pie and I was gobbling them down before you could say extra mozzarella.

Big beats, big bass and enough bleep bloops to set up a satellite business.

Premiere: Henry Greenleaf 'Taking First'

The sunlight filtering through the willow tree leaves a mismatched shadow on my wrist, wobbling in tune to the hums of the sun’s sultry song. I pull my arm into the sky, as if controlled by some external force, and watch the air above me conglomerate into a messy farrago of muddy fog left over from the morning dew and perfumed sweat, smelling like rotten oranges or putrid pomegranates. The scents interlock and tango over sky ownership: a miasma of dawn musk. 

Bristol-based producer Henry Greenleaf rises from the ashes of isolation with dub-infused rave track “Stam” pulled from his recent EP Taking First, set for release on London’s Par Avion. The 5-track EP, which features a remix from Cando, is an exercise in pushing the already ill-defined boundaries of experimental and post-dubstep music. “Stam” itself explores more ambient and aleatorical sounds brimming with haunted synth-lines and acid artefacts, unleashing an unearthly and eerie spirit that contains the desperation of the last year.
