Flori’s Life Signs marks the eighth release for Voyage and the UK artists debut for the label. An ode to the unexplored landscapes of Mars, Flori uses a refined aesthetic, not dissimilar to the original star gazers of Detroit, to imagine and encapsulate the reality of being alone on Point Lake. Two driving explorations, accompanied by a pensive ambient excursion, Life Signs takes Flori and Voyage into the areocentric orbit of our closest terrestrial neighbour.

Life Signs is accompanied by a full sleeve interpretation from Melbourne’s Sam Donaldson.

IVAN - Manipulate Me (STW Premiere)

The bird flew high through the city between the tall, towering buildings. It could not see the mess which lay down below amidst the streets for it was surrounded by the deep blue glow of the morning light and the mirrored reflections of the city skyscrapers which stood tall like monsterous dinosaurs atop the sprawling landscape. There was not a cloud in the sky today as the smacky dove left London for the last time. It would travel south above the sea to a place of warmth far, far away. 

Trinity Carbon continues the breakbeat and rave revival with a four track EP in what makes up the first Art-E-Fax release. This was our favourite cut from the new release which features beautiful strings and a rugged but steady beat.

PREMIERE: Trinity Carbon - Smacky Dove [Art-E-Fax]

Justin @Cudmore’s “Are You Ready” is the track that’s making you stay at the party long after you started saying you should really get home. Justin tells us that “Are You Ready” is the result of some early experimentation with the studio setup in his old apartment and one of the first white label acid tracks he began playing out, even before his popular debut for The Bunker NY, “Forget It” was released. “The elements came together quickly in an afternoon session -- I had been recently inspired by a trove of acapellas I’d come across. I would say this is when arranging the track really clicked and I started truly assembling it with the dance floor in mind.”  Over the next two years, the track became a secret weapon that made its way into the hands of DJs like Craig Richards, Mike Servito, Jackmaster, Derek Plaslaiko and Gerd Janson, becoming something of a sleeper hit. 

As Justin made more music and time progressed it seemed that there wasn’t a proper home for “Are You Ready” so he moved on to other projects and the track was shelved until 2018 when he heard Derek @Plaslaiko play it out again in Brooklyn and the idea for Derek to remix it was hatched. The sleazy vibe is timeless and time-suspending, rocking the darker corners of the afterhours with retro-minded, future-looking vibes. Plaslaiko’s remix ups the sleaze serving a dubbed out mood that brings to mind Monday morning sunrises in Detroit, while @gunnar_haslam’s treatment snaps us all out of it a bit by sharpening up the melody and bringing the percolating acid line to the fore.

CAIN closes out his Fine Grains triptych with a vivacious EP of signature bass shuddering polyrhythmic drums. ‘High Call’, his first 12” on the now Amsterdam-based label, offers 6 original tracks and a remix by Japanese producer Jun Kamoda in homage to the revelatory spirit and pre-medieval origins of carnivals. Artwork by Dutch/Scottish artist Roos Dijkhuizen created through ink and water drawings.
