In accordance with relativity, they are in some sense interchangeable, but we do know that they form co-equal parts of a larger 'thing' called space-time, and it is only within space-time that the most complete understanding of the motion and properties of natural objects and phenomena can be rigorously understood by physicists. Space and time are to space-time what arms and legs are to humans. In some sense they are interchangeable, but you cannot understand 10,000 years of human history without including both arms and legs as part of the basic human condition.

Cryptic, twilight emissions from Villalobos and Loderbauer; their synthetic compound of electronics and ouroboros jazz has walked from ECM and Perlon over to Mana. 

Developing a sound that tends to drift along as otherworldly atmospheres and strange fusion, Vilod evade easy categorisation, even compared to Villalobos’ already experimental and genre-twisting solo minimal offerings. He and Loderbauer pull away the backbone inherent to the structure of that dance music, and The Clouds Know refines a deft and subtle musical noir built on ambient cues, sparks and claps of electricity, brushed drums, black voids and subterranean bass swoops. There's a twinkle in the eye and moments of deadpan levity, but the overall mood here is sober and introspective. Emotions run deep.

Through studio mastery and an enigmatic language the album forms a fascinating sonic and sensory work with few compromises. With erratic rhythms notably submerged—techno remains as an irregular pulse in the belly of the beast—fields of crisp, uncanny detail expand greatly. Humid environments appear, dense with the chatter of synthesised insects and the gentle rain of drums and whispering cymbals, enchanting the listener in focus or sublimating into layers of ambience depending on your disposition - and the quality of your stereo field.

There was a rumble beneath the city streets as the subway raced from station to station underground. Down in the tunnels below there was a whole other world, hidden out of sight from the glitz and glamour of the skyscrapers and towerblocks. People lived rough, danced rough and gathered together as a dusty cult with mythical ideologies and unusual identities. They were wild and free, not rule bound in the same way as those were by the daylight. They lived amidst a twisted kingdom of darkness and thick air but they were sure as hell better than what was up top. 

Blâme is set to release a new EP on [re]sources - a heady EP with elements of dancehall, dub, idm, breakbeat and beyond. It's rounded off by a wicked collection of remixes featuring contributions from Mr Mitch, Piezo and more.

Lithe takes a half-step into the club realm with Yaya / Gunman, shedding the faux-rock instrumentation of 2017’s Fervent Gum and leaning further into rhythmic maximalism.

Yaya / Gunman is the first of three EPs from Lithe to be released throughout 2020. Each track transitions into the next and listening to all three installments consecutively will reveal a fully realised mini-album.

These were difficult and testing times, they required for patience and virtue. As the world turned, there was a very conscious state amidst the human race, a sense that we were all about to enter wild unknown territory. What lay around the corner nobody knew. When would life as we know it return? These were the the questions asked perilously by the onlookers who danced and sang blissfully unaware of the chaos which lurked beyond the line of sight. Would we even survive? This was the point of reckoning, as we push forwards into the grey. 

De Lichting has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, a prominent label which has released a prolific array of deep, heady music which encourages as much thought and intrigue as it does shoe shuffling. Just the way we like it. The new EP from queniv is no different, technical percussive workouts with brooding energy.

After 5 years of 'Fortnightly Freebies' columns collating our favourite free downloads, we decided to do things a bit differently for the 100th chapter. Introducing 'Big Material', a 19-track 'name your price' compilation that will donate 100% of profits made to Stonewall Housing, a London-based charity supporting some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in our society.

At a time when unfair austerity is increasing inequality and leaving so many behind, we hope to support a community that has given so much to the 'scene' and music we love. Digi-dub abstractions and drifting ambient to kaleidoscopic breaks and newly-coined genre, 'subtle donk', it's a pretty accurate microcosm of the If-Only curation as a whole.

Big Material pulls together music from some of If-Only's favourite artists, with tracks from @apsychicyes, @riveryarra, Material Things (@12th-isle), @priori-ties, @nicholaswilson1982 & @steviewhisper, @benoitb, @maxabysmal, @58daniel, @bogdan-drazic, @whyesss, @twitch, @warzouk, @thomasbakk, @eyemeasure, @rdjm0, @furiousfrank, Moonphase (AKA @cl_lit), @moonbowmusic and @aki-aki.

Having put on several of his own parties in his home town with artists such as Alex Banks, Maxxi Soundsystem and XXXY, Mattr moved to Berlin to study electronic music production and performance before releasing an EP on Faceless Recordings that picked up support from the likes of Amé, Laurent Garnier, Dino Lenny and many more.
 ‘Ardr‘ his addition to this wondeful EP where nostalgic atmospheres through lo-fi modulations, ghostly pads and emotive elements take the focus on this magic trip.
