[Premiere] Carter Wolfe & Korin Complex - Filament (Airlock EP out now via Off-Switch)

Having collaborated on a regular basis since 2017, Korin Complex and Carter Wolfe have been continually exploring new ways to work with sound. While 2020 saw the release of their track ‘Ponder’ on the Winding River EP (Miracle Drug Recordings), we are excited to be putting out a brand new collaborative release from Korin Complex and Carter Wolfe on Off-Switch Audio. After many years refining their sound, ‘Airlock EP’ demonstrates a satisfyingly fun and hands-on approach to dance music. Capturing analogue synth jams and digitally building them into fully-fledged tracks together via the internet, the pair have creatively overcome barriers of lockdowns and long-distance to put together a heavy hitting combo of bass, beats and catchy synth-lines.
The EP begins with the title track Airlock. The track gradually morphs punching polyrhythmic percussion into melodies that gracefully rotate around the higher frequencies. This leaves the perfect amount of space for the slow, decaying reverberations to ring back-and-forth between the smooth pitch modulated bass in a complex chatter of sound.
Filament then uses a similar sonic palette, filling the space with thick textures and fast-paced rhythmic intricacies. This one re-contextualises nostalgic analogue synth tones with digital FX processing, placing you in a somewhat outer-worldly musical experience perfectly accompanied with aggressive low frequency energy; Filament is truly one for those lone entrancing moments on the dancefloor.
Next up, Korin Complex takes on a more playful approach with Busywork. Although this one is a solo production from Korin, Busywork retains much of the energy of the previous two tracks. Cut up vocal samples syncopate above a heavy four-to-the-floor kick pattern, alongside an accidentally generated synth lead and an overload of electronic drum kit hits.
Finally, long-time accomplice of the Off-Switch imprint Barom, puts a brand new spin on Airlock. Combining loopy electro style drums with elements from the original, and signature organic sound design switch ups of his own, Barom takes the title track to an exciting new territory; the perfect encore to complete OSD009.

Dutch duo Deep Dimension serve up four massive techno cuts for ‘Rave Slave’ on Rekids.

Drawing on more than two decades of solo experiences, GEN X co-founders Jeffrey Hek and Jimmy van de Geijn came together as Deep Dimension in 2015. Debuting on Rekids last year with ‘So 1992’, their signature sound is built on deep basslines and forceful kicks with regular support from Radio Slave, Sam Paganini, Luca Agnelli, Joseph Capriati and Chris Liebing. They now return to the respected imprint with a robust package aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

‘Rave Slave’ fully asserts itself from the off with industrial synth lines and machine gun-like hits. Dark, filtered vocals add to the ghoulish effect while stomping kicks are sure to decimate dancefloors. The excellently heavy ‘Audio Space’ has more seriously weight percussion and foundation shaking hits, this time overlaid with clipped female vocal stabs and haunting effects that trail off into the distance. This is warehouse techno at its finest.

The powerful ‘Strong Than Steel’ then drills down with droning synth lines and blistering kicks. It barrels along with plenty of tension and suspense cleverly built into the breakdowns and truly hammers along once it drops again. The brilliantly big finale is ‘Planet E’, an edgy techno trip with blistering, old school and hard techno drums with frazzled stabs bringing strobe-lit rave vibes.

This is a collection of tunes dear to my heart but either too old or just not relevant enough anymore to fit them into anything else than an "old tunes"-outlet I guess. But still want them to see the light of day obviously, hope someone finds something in this :) enjoyy

Turnend Tapes presents the Da'aro Youth Compilation. An album consisting of various sounds and textures spanning 11 tracks with the involvement of 13 artists.

The Injera Club is the main project run by Da’aro youth which is a community-led organisation supporting young refugees from the Horn of Africa. They aim to promote the wellbeing of these migrant young people living in the UK, through direct support, building bridges in the Eritrean community and through advocating for changes to unfair and discriminatory systems which undermine their wellbeing.
100% of profits will be going to this amazing charity who'd benefit greatly from any support especially given the current escalation of conflict in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The song fulfils its namesake, featuring an ensemble of swirling synths and omnipresent vocal chops that lurk within the tune’s hallucinatory ambience.

Despite the contemplative and hypnotic nature of the track, its foundations of driving breaks and smooth bass never fail to deliver all the energy required to bring any room to its feet.

"Starting 2021 with a fresh palette Simply Deep bring in Germany based producer Barom. He takes us for an aesthetically pleasing Journey through his thoughts and creations over the last four years. Barom is no stranger to the scene with radio plays from Commodo under his belt and releases with FatKidOnFire & Off-Switch Audio. ‘Run Circles’ is mostly a 140BPM expedition with the exceptions of ‘Contest’ slowing things down to 86BPM and ‘Come and Go’ setting the tempo at 120BPM. 

This release has something for all the heads to enjoy, Barom keeps true to his unique production array across all the tracks, this isn’t a typical run-of-the-mill Dubstep or Dance album, this is a one-of-a-kind release stamping Barom as one of the most alluring producers we have had the pleasure of working with.

Barom always keeps the album interesting and spontaneous, the traditional 16/32 bar repetition is kept to a minimum, the tracks are always fluctuating and morphing into something new. Progression is the secret ingredient in these productions, these songs are not just for shaking your sound-system, they also tell a story. 

We invited the best of the best to come forward to try re-imagine these stories as their own – bringing the total to 11 tracks. Gnischrew, Korin Complex and Noble all rework their chosen songs to perfection, carving their own chapters in this series.
