Here's a new one from me. I've been asked about this one loads recently and it's actually a remix rather than an original production. I was asked by Nervous Records to pick a track from their back catalogue to remix, for their 25 year anniversary celebrations. Initially it was a daunting task considering how many iconic tracks they've released over the years. After a few days digging, I remembered this ambient interlude mix that Francois K did of Kim English back in '97, and I always loved the chords that come in towards the end. It's the first time I have done a remix of a remix, hope you enjoy!

For the eighth release on Roberto's Fossil Archive imprint, a very special collaboration which was produced by Roberto and the late Trevino (aka Marcus Intalex) shortly before his tragic passing in 2017 is poised. The release features three original cuts, along with a previously unreleased remix Roberto put together of 'Black Cat' which featured on Trevino's album 'Front'.

The music speaks for itself. However, to honour Marcus, a short poem has been put together by one of his closest friend's.

"Music is the great tree that stands alone, every second twisting and turning, straining and stretching, as each leaf and branch fights for the closest spot to the sun.

The artists are the leaves and to the untrained eye, so plentiful and all look the same. While delicate and vulnerable to the changing of seasons, or taste.

But astonishingly one solitary leaf falling to the ground can make shockwaves that can be felt on the other side of the world and have a legacy that will always be remembered.

Marcus taught us all to create music that way."

UK trio Denham Audio have become known for their emotional rave productions, releasing on the likes of Frendzone, Beat Machine Records, Durkle Disco, Secret Rave and Club Glow - a tape series they run alongside Borai, LMajor and Mani Festo. 

Their next release, ‘Caviar Cordial’ out on the 19th June, lands on the relatively new imprint There Is Love In You. Delivering 4 slices of breakbeat, house, and garage with ambient for afters, the EP showcases something a little different from Denham Audio.

Offering an intelligent and refined take on heavy, rave focused club music is St-Petersburg based  Maruwa. Her sound fuses all the genre defining bits of a wide palette,  weaving them together into a 'greatest hits' tapestry of electronica. Expect broken beats thumpy acid lines and delicate trance pads in this genre bending hour of a mix.  It's a similar intoxicating sound which she's made a name for herself on with stellar releases on stalwart labels SCDD and Lobster Theremin, so we expect nothing less.

Emerald is a name we all know in the scene at the minute with residencies on 1xtra and Rinse FM. We’ve all locked into an ‘Afters at Emerald’s’ during lockdown, surely?  

Emerald’s multi-genre skill set spreads UK Bass driven club music and this mix fully backs that up. I’m sure we can all agree that we hope it won’t be too long until we can see Emerald behind the decks surrounded by our best pals but for now…

New Wave Podcast 019: Glockta 

Whether it be under his original name Popka or his newly founded alias Glockta, Nathan has found warranted success with both his productions and DJing. Unlike a lot of our recent guests, his music is identifiable, with a clear direction for his sound and sets. Under his Popka alias he has excelled with pushing a style that leans heavily on the combination of disco and house infused tracks. His sound exuberates hands-in-the-air euphoria perfect for a festival or club setting. While his Glockta alias, he has zoned in on creating on a UK heavy sound, with garage, two step and breakbeat influences. This versatility with his production has made him one of the most exciting up and coming artists.

His musical journey started back in York and has led him to various venues across the globe; featuring on the infamous Rinse FM France and playing in front of sold out crowds in Malta. In York, he started events company Mercury and used it as opportunity to play regularly at some of the main venues in the city. Despite the scene being quite small, they built up quite a following, which allowed them to book DJs like, Mella Dee and Dan Shake. It was a move to Newcastle however which allowed Popka to move forward with his music, with the rich and bustling nightlife on offer, he progressed both with the understanding of the scene and his sound. His production then gathered pace and with the trend of lofi, he was able to build a platform on Soundcloud. Over the years Popka has released music on some of the most respected labels and platforms, including Nervous Records and Housem. 

After building a solid platform under Popka, he decided to create Glockta as he wanted a clear differentiation between the sound he was pushing under each name. At the time he was experimenting with UK based sounds and self-released two tracks, which took the scene by storm. Since then he has further expanded his name and reach, by releasing on some of the biggest labels in dance music (Dansu Discs and 3 Feet Deep). His focus mainly lies with the Glockta project and has even brought a new for music, saying “it’s the most fun I’ve ever had producing”. 

We recently caught up with Glockta, to discuss life after uni, the approach to making music under two alias’, future releases and the translation of his second name.
