The Twenty Fourth Chapter continues to be revealed as Swiss-Chilean artist Masaya proudly announces her debut full length album, Picking Up The Pieces. The 11 track affair is an accomplished listen from start to finish.

Masaya’s whole life is music. As boss of her own label Mina Records, she is a real underground star who has served up many great releases over the last ten years. This latest and greatest opus is a particularly personal one. Three years in the making and influenced by the birth of her son it is an album which draws on a rich range of musical references, truly 11 stories in sound.

Starting with the atmospheric and beatless Walking Dad, the album sucks you in right away. From there The Backstage picks up the pace with a serene deep house groove featuring plenty of soulful chords and sombre moods. Agnostic is brilliantly sparse and deep, with well-crafted drums and cosmic synth patterns unfolding up top.

Throughout the album, there is often a firmly rooted drum groove that keeps things locked to a late night dance floor vibe, and Haumea and Picture are perfect examples of that. Haunting vocal chops, shadowy strings and angelic keys colour pieces like Flow of Tears, Justin Loves and Inside, before the closing trio of Innocence, with its downbeat bass notes and wallowing vocal whispers, Borderline, littered with cowbells and synth drones, and Time Goes Fast, an optimistic closer complete with dreamy female vocals that leaves you feeling enlightened.

Overall then this is a sensational and absorbing album that really showcases Masaya’s fantastic sense of mood and groove, leaving us excited for the album remixes package set for later in the year. Her story continues on Chapter 24.

Stepping out into the Indie Electronic limelight, Montreal’s @HOKImusic release their debut single ‘Almost Home’. The collaborative project fuses Varti Deuchoghlian’s diverse experiences as a producer with Australian vocalist Brent McCormick’s powerful songwriting. With nearly two decades of combined experience and musical exploration, including former metal and trance projects, the duo collides in the form of HOKI. Instrumental performance and emotion-packed lyrics are at the forefront of the HOKI sound, which represents the unique ability of electronic music to draw from vast arrays of influence and inspiration. Welcome to the 27th edition of Undercurrents, this time with my special guest from Amsterdam, Marc de Koning, with whom I connected a few years ago through music and sharing each other's work :) 

Marc began his musical journey at the young age of 15, with a deep appreciation for deep, energetic, progressive house and melodic techno. He’s had support from dutch pioneer, Dimitri Kneelers, and collaborated with the well-loved and wonderfully talented Luke Santos from Argentina on a track that was charted by Hernan in his top 20 in 2014. With a residency at Recycle Lounge and a release on Paul Hazendonk’s imprint, Manual Music, he also has a new podcast series called Heartbeat for which he did an official launch at ClubNL on July 12th....and I was fortunate to play that amazing night for my first gig in Amsterdam! The proactive musical journey of present day poly genrist Deckert kicked off by joining a postcore teenage angst band in the eyeliner painted emo era of the mid 2000s. Quickly his interests longed beyond cliche soaked heartbreak lyrics and the transition from guitars to electronics began with the help of a new wave of indietronic and the french tsunami of new rave which built a comfortable bridge between the old and the new world.

Quickly after attending the first rave all nighters Deckert felt unsatisfied with the lack of underground electronic parties in his native Ruhr area, gathered some likeminded friends and altogether they stomped some sunday midday dancefloor matinees out of the ground. Due to the absence of any kind of booking budget this is where the first ever attempts at DJing started.

Following some twists of fate in 2008 Deckert joined the lineup of Germany’s notorious pop enfant terrible ‚Jennifer Rostock‘ as a bass player for the coming 10 years. Besides an endless amount of touring this career choice included the movement of his center of life to Berlin providing an internship in the concrete depths of the techno capital.

The interest in this kind of music and the ever evolving surrounding scene never cooled off. After becoming close friends with DJ and producer ‚Aaaron‘, Deckert gathered interest in crafting his own electronic endeavors. Their first collaboration ‚L.D.O.E.‘ became an instant success in 2017 and secured them a place in the heart of the roster of ‚Connected‘, the label run by UK’s legendary ’Stereo MCs’.

Many joint releases followed on acclaimed labels like ‚MoBlack‘, ‚Frau Blau‘ and ‚LSF21+‘, escorted by countless remixes, tracks and solo EPs on ’Stil vor Talent’, ‚Monaberry' and ‚TAU‘, just to name a few.

From 2023 on Deckert established a promising joint venture with rising whizz kid ‚Ede‘, resulting in the international post punk electronica smash hit ‚Immer‘ which got picked up by Gerd Janson's very own imprint ‚Running Back‘. The track became a regular closing track in Berlin's infamous ‚Panoramabar‘ and slipped onto the USB-Sticks of countless major league DJs. The new found duo is set to deliver further follow up releases on some of the finest labels in contemporary techno and already played sprawling sets in mythical locations like ‚Sisyphos‘ or ‚Watergate‘.

Furthermore the multi instrumentalist is one half of the electronic liveact ‚Deorbiting‘ with a constant output on Oliver Koletzki’s label.

Deckert’s diverse DJ-sets offer a sparkling variety in between house, indie and organica, sometimes seen with rare trance ascendents. The passionate performer keeps a steady eye onto the given crowds and circumstances, already having spread fancy footworks over dancefloors in destinations all over the globe like Tokyo, Istanbul, Croatia and Tulum.
