Occasionally the stars align to create something truly special. Well, without beating around the bush, that’s what we’ve got for you here. Not only a classic Legowelt hymn that’s ripe for a revisit but three quality remixers (Tuff City Kids, Catz 'N Dogz and Younger Rebinds aka Benny Rodrigues) turning in scandalously good remixes for Cocoon Recordings. Yes, we’re spoiling you...but you’re worth it!

Disco Rout first surfaced in 2002. The electro revival that had ushered in the new millennium was in full swing and this was to prove a seminal tune, being voted track of the year by Groove magazine. As if to prove a point the bass line still grabs you the moment it drops, while the laser-guided melodies feel as relevant today as they ever did. Fusing the past with a neon future, Legowelt’s complex interwoven elements fit like a glove and the clarity of the mix makes everything seem effortless. Maybe that‘s why it’s such a fascinating track to revisit, having already been remixed over the years by the likes of Deetron, Johannes Heil and Freeform Five.

Anyway, this current crop of remixes are equally top notch starting with Tuff City Kids who do what they do best, serving up an organic, conga driven workout complete with percolating synthetic percussion, cut up vocals and silky smooth choral pads. Warping and flanging the original riffs into an infectious, state-of-the-art revamp, they stay true to the retro vibe with added emphasis on the vocal hook for a more pronounced breakdown that briefly trips out before regrouping and taking flight once more. 

Following hot on their heels is a screamer from Catz ’N Dogz who drop the tempo slightly, layering a metallic cowbell motif over a tough, robotic disco groove that adds extra swagger to the bass line. The original parts gradually spiral into view, cranking up the pressure till we hit a solid state of euphoria that in turn, disintegrates into freaky alien chatter. There’s no let up though, as squawking synths lock on to the rhythm and everything evolves into a full-on percussive outro.

So far, so fantastic. You would think there’s nowhere left to go after being blasted into outer space a couple of times already but we’re not done yet. Last but not least, Dutch master Benny Rodrigues aka ROD steps up under his Younger Rebinds alias with even more intensity than demonstrated on last year’s ‘Sound of Benny EP’ on Running Back. Picking apart the original with almost forensic attention to detail, he gives new life to each individual strand with an exhilarating mix that seems destined to leave its mark on dance floors around the globe throughout the summer and beyond. The second of his two remixes is included here, both having featured on a much sought after Cocoon Recordings limited edition white label. Remix two compliments the precision of the first with a more freestyle approach that’s in one hell of a rush to get going. The bass line rips through the mix, hihats scurry toward the cavernous, arpeggiated breakdown and we’re drenched in reverb as the synths dovetail dangerously, all the while paying homage to the hi-octane energy of the original. Rodriguez effortlessly toys with the crowd, frying the synapses and gorging on serotonin, as the mix motors relentlessly to its conclusion.

The Disco Rout remix EP is a shameless riot of sound that succeeds in doing something very special - by staying true to Legowelt’s vision, the artists involved not only demonstrate their notable skills as remixers but reaffirm the quality of a classic and timeless piece of music.

Debuting on Rekids, Laurent Garnier & Chambray collaborate for a colossal single entitled ‘Feelin’ Good’ featuring two outstanding remixes from label owner Radio Slave.

Having supported Rekids for many years in his sets across the globe, it only made sense for Laurent Garnier to drop one of his finest productions to date on the label. Although the legendary Frenchman has kept busy producing movie soundtracks (‘Paris Est A Nous’) and remixes in recent years, this is his first full release since 2017. He’s joined in the studio by Chambray, a Berlin-based producer known for releasing on Figure, Unknown To The Unknown and Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic.

Opening with sporadic battle cries, stabbing claps and powerful bass sequences before rapturous piano melodies come into effect – ‘Feelin’ Good’ is undoubtedly one of this year’s biggest tracks. On the flip, Radio Slave assembles two contrasting remixes that do just as much damage: the first is an atmospheric
number that marches forward using precision kicks, rattling percussion and rising pads, whilst the ‘Revenge Mix’ cranks things up a notch with its crunchy breaks before introducing the original’s blissful keys.

10 short years ago, a series of mysterious 12inch bomb-grade jack tracks began. Released under the moniker Traffic Signs, the releases appeared yearly from 2003 with very little hype or fuss – but went on to smash up dancefloors across the world in the hands of in-the-know DJs.  

Eventually it slipped out that the tracks were the work of Poker Flat head Steve Bug – a conduit for playful, upfront house with a tongue in cheek attitude. Now the cat is well and truly out of the bag, Poker Flat have graciously complied this stunning collection of all the Traffic Sign releases - with the cherry on top being one devastating lost track and an exclusive re-edit of a classic. 

'I Like Your Booty' and 'The Big Fake' originally kicked off the series, and still sound massive today – rough and raw rhythms that have proved their worth over the years, and still remain in many discerning DJ’s boxes.  

Also here is the mighty, mind-scrambling 'VCM Nation', and its original flip side 'Work Yeah'. Both remain as prime an example of how to jack a dancefloor to within an inch of its collective life as you are likely to come across. 

'Been in Glue' from 2005 pursues a more minimal funk route, highly charged and restless house music that will worm its way into your brain, as will the cheekily named 'Back on Crack'’s narcotic charms. 

'Noize Alarm' is the exclusive lost track here – and what a treat it is. Mr Bug switches easily back into his Traffic Signs persona to produce yet another driving, hypnotic workout for the mind and body – its sly nod to French Kiss proving this is an alter ego the label boss can really have some fun with. This one will blow up big, mark our words. 

Elsewhere, Marc Ashken’s previously unreleased re-edit of 'I Like Your Booty' is another one for the collectors – stripped down ass-shaking electronic funk that serves as a perfect companion piece to the remix he conducted with DJ T – also included here. 

Partly remastered where needed, Steve Bug presents Traffic Signs marks a welcome return for this project – and the perfect chance for those that might have missed them the first time round to pick up some true underground classics.

Everyone's got a vice. Ours right now is Vhyce. A man whose sounds you can always rely on to hoist you out of that dark place and remember all that's good and funky in the world.

A long-standing operator on labels such as Future Disco and Boogie Angst, here we find the Belgian-based Portuguese-Italian making his debut on Pets with four blistering slabs of disco. A fine balance of groove, bass and cosmic nuances, we kick off with 'One Day We'll Float' where a bulbous party bassline springs from nowhere and instantly uplifts.

It's backed by plenty more goodtime gold: 'The Heart Take Fright' nods wryly at Yazoo while chugging from here to the horizon, 'Personal Numbness' is a much more contemplative, introspective jam while 'Electric Dreams' lives up to its name with a Moroder-like prowl that quickly turns into a full-on chase.
