A friend had just got Covid and I was lying awake at 4:00AM worrying about them, and thinking about how much I miss my friends.
This is for all the friends I miss.

This version of "Because" is inspired by the wildfires of 2020 in Colorado. For days, the sky has been a murky grey with thick, harsh, smoke-filled air. The sun had become red-shifted as less light was able to penetrate the smoke. At night, the moon was a constant, ominous red as well. This fire, and all that have been covering the planet lately are a reminder that we are dangerously close to complete annihilation of our planet and thus our own selves. The planet has been through extinction-level events several times in the past though, and has survived all of them. We have not.
