"An Alternative Mind" is the 7th installment to the all original mix series containing 18 brand new songs, of which are a different side to the Mindtality Project.  This little batch of Music I hold close to my heart and touches back to more of the guitar melodies I wrote growing up. An Alternative Journey In The Mind #7 (Original Mix)

Ever since making the first family jazz mix in 2020, I knew I’d want to put together another to showcase more of my family’s music in this way. So when I got asked to play a family jazz set as part of the Tipper & Friends takeover at Secret Dreams festival this year, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to do so.

This project felt like a collage to me - spent a lot of time gathering old recordings from family members, piecing together with electronic tracks, and doing new recordings on top of that. It would not be possible without all the musicians and producers whose music I featured in this curation so be sure to see the full track list below. Special shoutouts to my dad Paul Barbato, Uncle Joe “Sonny” Barbato, Uncle Artie Barbato, and family friend Bill Jones for doing many recording sessions with me and making this set extra special.

Lots of love was put into this mix and I do hope you enjoy. As I said after making the first one, I am grateful for having a family that taught me music as one of the greatest pleasures in life, and I hope that this helps keep the vibrant genre of jazz alive and celebrated.

Rusted Rhythms Vol. 34 - Dual Natured [Philosopher Set]

Greetings! Big gratitude to The Rust for hosting Featherbed Sessions, and to Actualize for throwing down visuals to this set for the livestream! Shout out to 5AM for inviting me to throw down a set! I took the opportunity to play some brand new music, as well as some fresh twists on some old classics. I included some songs from my new album Steep Dreams which I am releasing soon on Bandcamp!

Here's a lil mix for you who may appreciate this
It's been an interesting year for music... The abrupt halt in us sharing music in live contexts definitely shook me up in ways, and the ups and downs of my creative process have made me wonder lately what really matters in all this to me.
I tried on existing with the stress of "needing to figure out how to redesign my career" to make it more "worth(?) it" without shows , the thought maybe i need more followers and more posts and more likes , to be "better(?)" or "bigger(?)"
Some days i'd open the studio door and wonder : "is this officially an office job now???? really, is it???
Is music but a product to be sold in some capitalist system?
Fuck no.
the studio to me is meant to be a temple, a safe-haven for expression and creativity.
this music is a gift to be shared. it's a vibe that has connected people for times immemorial, in continuously evolving forms. so much bigger than any individual.

I wanna take a moment to say thank you if you've been a listener, and if this music has moved you or inspired you, that means the most to me.
You're more than just another follower or like , you're part of this world with me.

Our world is going through some crazy times, and  i think it is very important for us to question the ways we relate to each other as humans, and what our true value systems are. Each of us has an input on reality.

Ive been putting out music on solstice for years now, but had to take some deep moments this year for myself to remember...
i love music, creating is a pleasure to me, and i love sharing it as well
i believe we are all connected through this web of life
so i offer these sounds as a gift
