Headed to the Streets was written by B.L. Shirelle at Muncy State Correctional Institution (Muncy PA) in May 2015, a few months before she was set to be released.

Her lyrics were sent to Anthony “Big Ant” McKinney and Mark B. Springer, both lifers incarcerated at Warren Correctional Institution (Lebanon OH), for composition.

In November 2015, Fury Young and dr. Israel recorded Ant’s vocal and the song’s instrumental track with incarcerated musicians at WCI.

When B.L. was released in December 2015, her vocals were recorded in her hometown of Philly.

The lead guitar is by gHSTS & gUITARS, who spent his youth in and out of juvenile facilities in New York.

The background vocals in the last chorus are by Ezette Edouard and Dexter Nurse, who were both incarcerated in the New York state prison system.

Hope Robots is a Loose collective that fuses ska rap and basically anything it enjoys, which came into being after a chance meeting between gHSTS & gUITARS and Onkel(Orhbooten http://www.ohrbooten.de/) in Berlin DE, sometime in 2012. gHSTS & gUITARS started producing the song and recruited Reddaz (http://www.redddaz.com/) and Creature (https://creaturenomicsnyc.bandcamp.com/) to fill out the vocal and raps and the song was completed. Part of a 3 song e.p. this one should be sure to satisfy fans of positive political ska and rap every were in the world.

When I heard Desiree Dawsons song Hey Brother and the positive messaged it contained, I instantly had the idea to do a Hip Hop / Trip Hop type of re mix, and I knew I wanted N.Y.C. Rap legend Creature A.K.A. Siddiq O Booker (Rebelmatic) to be featured on the track! So I worked up a skeleton beat and looped my chorus idea of Desiree's vocals and sent it to Creature, when he said he was in, it was on! Creating what was a flash of an idea in my mind to what became the final remix was a journey for me as a musician / producer / mixer. I was working with Creature from abroad, him in NYC and me in Amsterdam, so I set up a studio session at Coop Studios in Oceanside L.I. with Chris Laybourne were I new Creatures verses would be recorded properly, And while waiting for his lyrics I worked up a few beat ideas, that ranged from Hardcore Boom Bap to Ska. I settled on the more laid back vibe because I felt it was not getting in the way of the vocals and the message of the song, and in the end that was the most important part of the puzzle! Once I realized that the mix fell into place! I had engineer Bent Langerak in Amsterdam do a final tweak on my EQ and levels and add the drops in the 2nd verse and some mastering and that was that, it was done! My vision was complete and I felt like I had done justice in my interpretation of Desiree's song and message. I want to thank Dessiree and Vintage Currency for the opportunity to do this remix and Creature, Chris and Bent for all helping me to realize my vision! And a special shout out to my wife Miriam for never telling me to turn it down! And my son Lennon for dancing and letting me know when it was grooving...
