I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

My Tribute To Frankie Knuckles

Yam Who?'s MIDNIGHT RIOT RECORDS presents its ninth monthly podcast.

This festive mix comes from our man down under Dr Packer and its a dance floor filled riot. Dr Packer is an alias of West Australian DJ/Producer 'Greg Packer'. Whilst still living in the UK greg was exposed to a record label called 'Street Sounds' ran by 'Morgan Khan' he began collecting the 'Electro Series' and 'Street Sounds Series' and a regular follower of 'Mike Allen's - Capitol Radio' show in London , he was a full blown 'B-Boy' and Hip Hop Junkie.

In 1998 Greg took up production and set up his own studio running his own label 'Interphase Music' He produced over 100 tracks & remixes under the name 'Greg Packer' and was signed to many other labels in the UK & USA including 'Good Looking Records'

Early last year (2013) Greg began mixing entire sets from CD therefore searching for music online , he started picking up re-edits, a certain artist stood out to him known as the 'Late Nite Tuff Guy' he loved the way the original songs were beefed up and sounded fat on a club system but the original vibe was still there , also these edits were quantised perfectly meaning you were able to beat mix them flawlessly unlike playing the original vinyl...

In August 2013 Greg Produced his first two edits under the name 'Dr Packer' and Labels Such as 'Disco Dat , Hot Digits , Hotbox Boogie & Midnight Riot' have all shown plenty of love for the doctor so things wont be slowing down anytime soon... every release so far has hit the number one spot on the 'Juno Download sales chart'.

"During the past decade The Rabbit Hole has gained a somewhat mythical status amongst Glastonbury’s bounteous array of attractions. It’s an off-the-beaten-track oasis, tucked away and difficult to access. There’s a festival facing space, diagonally opposite the Stonebridge tent in The Park area, which features bands and DJs, but that’s exactly what it is – the face of The Rabbit Hole. Finding your way into the main burrow, however, isn’t meant to be as straightforward.

Once you’re inside you’ll discover the delights of Funkingham Palace - a full-tilt dancing space with a delicious sound, courtesy of Sova Audio’s 4-point system, and an ever on-point DJ line-up.

I played there on the Saturday, directly after I’d finished my stint in The Rabbit Hole, and it turned out to be quite a night. The place was already jumping when I kicked-off soon after 11pm, and the vibes in there were palpable. I knew they had a special guest following me, but I wasn’t sure who it was until I was about to finish and checked if the next DJ was ready. Turned out that they’d pulled off quite a coup, with Carl Cox about to unleash a secret 3-hour set. It’s the first time I’ve played on a bill with Carl – I’ve only met him once previously, briefly on the Isle Of Wight with Nile Rodgers, but I was asked to DJ at his 50th birthday back in 2012, an offer I had to unfortunately decline as I was already booked that night. I really enjoyed watching him work close-up, the energy he emits is quite something, and this, of course, enraptures this audience, causing an active circuit between DJ and dancers.

It was a pleasure to play at both The Rabbit Hole and Funkingham Palace, so big thanks to Nick and Isaac from Gouranga for making things work out and providing such a great environment for me to spend a wonderous Saturday night in Somerset. Hoping we can do it again in 2020."
