This is a mix we just did of a cracking Patrick Adams style tune by Chris E. Pants from Chicago. It's coming out on File Under Disco in the next month or so with another mix by The Black Madonna. The original is an authentic slice of synth infused disco music and inspired by our recent trip to Brazil to play the Mareh festival we gave the parts a good shakedown and a wee twist for those sandy dance floors out there. Hope you like it x

After an overwhelming start with the illustrious artist Cuttlefish & Asparagus, who did an immense job both on Black Sun’s homonym and Ish’s “Don’t Stop", KALAKUTA SOUL Records come back with another deep set of disco gems, touched by the hand of one of the most respected heads of the genre. Glasgow’s disco godfather, the almighty Al Kent, has delivered three eclectic masterpieces, due to take the international dancefloors to a further level of musical consciousness. A further pack of deep dug bombs that confront the functionality in music many labels have always strived for. The A Side keeps every imaginable sound system busy with a drifty percussive harvester adorned with an eclectic instrumentation that splits flesh from bones and mind from soul. “Colder Than Cold” on the B Side is a perfect example of how a dancefloor should sound like. A thick bassdrum, a bass slapped by the fingers of a giant, keys and chords from heaven and horns hailing from the utmost depth of Kalakuta’s soul. Hot on the heels of Daje Cutz Vol. 1 which featured a trinity of talented producers in the shape of Monsieur Van Pratt, Matalo! and Paul Older, Samosa Records modern funk offshoot Daje Funk continues to evolve. Their follow up EP ‘Daje Cutz Vol. 2’ jumps from 10” to 12” so that they can pack in more of the finest dance-floor groove to help satiate even the most enthusiastic listeners among us.  ‘Daje Cutz Vol. 2’ brings in five heavy hitting tracks including club jams from M.B. Edit, C. Da Afro and label boss Les Inferno. There are also return appearances for Paul Older and Matalo! who’s Vol. 1 jams were picked up by DJ’s all over the globe.  Up first and keeping the labels support for Italian producers running strong is M. B Edit aka Massimo Berardi. His track ‘Your Love’ is packed with groove aplenty. Warm bass notes, funk edged guitar licks and smooth keys all surround a bluesy funk vocal. Building up slowly ‘Your Love’ is soon dancing head first into Temptations-esque smile inducing vocal harmonies and powerful brass solos which give us a quintessential hands in the air moment.  Matalo!’s 'Abeja' takes us off into heavy percussion edged 70’s vibe house music. This one is a gilt edged groover whose Caribbean flow is a real rollercoaster of emotions. With summer vibes through and through this one could very well become a BBQ rave and carnival staple.  Greek Disco machine C. Da. Afro is up next with ‘Manhattan Groove’ and it does indeed have that 70’s NYC feel coupled with a distinct and vibrant Latin edge. It’s a real musical tapestry of influences all flowing happily through its party spirit. Feel good energy aplenty right here!  Over on the flip label boss Les Inferno gets in on the act with 'Hey Santana' which again has a 70’s Latin spirit swirling around within it’s percussion fuelled soul. This is another wonderful track which brings to mind the Blackout Allstar’s ‘I Like It Like That’ for it’s anything goes crossover dance-floor potential and we all know where that one ended up.  Last up but most certainly not least is Paul Older’s 'Amor Mio' and its a real monster of a set closer which brings to mind a Latin superstition with its heavy funk clavi loop. Paul has come up trumps yet again, he’s a producer to keep a close eye on with his deft dance-floor touches always impressing. Here he has looped this in all the right places as it ebbs and flows constantly with its sultry vocals and string stabs.  If you love your funk with a 2020 edge this is another huge release from Daje Funk.

Paul Older - Amor Mio

Dicky Trisco is a DJ and music producer who lives and breathes what he does. His passion for music and desire for good times is well known. He has spent years chasing that sound and that feeling around the globe as an international DJ. For him DJing is all about people. He is addicted to the way music connects people and makes for better days. 

Dicky really broke through as a DJ and producer in the Nu Disco/Disco Revival years from around 2004. In particular, his run of DJ edit, original and remix releases alongside Balearic House hero Pete Herbert on Disco Deviance and Maxi Discs led to him becoming an increasingly in demand DJ with a busy international touring schedule. He is also rumoured to be the force behind the rather legendary Secret Squirrel vinyl only imprint. But who knows??? It’s a secret.

Since those early days, Dicky has toured constantly around Asia, Australia, Central/South America, USA, Europe and the UK sharing the music and the sound he loves. He has also become a regular at a long list of high profile festivals including the legendary Glastonbury, Electric Elephant, Mareh, Love International, Festival No 6 and many more.

Dicky is also a mainstay of the local scene in his hometown of Dundee, Scotland where he was a resident of the infamous ‘Small Town Club’ aka Reading Rooms for over a decade. At nights like Autodisco, Disco Deviance, A Night With and Non Stop, he learned his trade playing alongside many of his heroes and legendary DJs from around the world such as Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, Rahaan, Jazzie B, Horse Meat Disco, Farley Jackmaster and many more.

Dicky also ran and curated the well-respected House music label Home Taping Is Killing Music for many years putting out a run of amazing releases. Home Taping broke a number of great House artists who have gone on to become household names in the scene including The Blessed Madonna, The Revenge, Nicholas, Borrowed Identity, Eddie C & Medlar amongst others.

Dicky continues to discover, produce and remix music for a number of quality imprints including Razor-N-Tape, File Under Disco, Home Taping, Barefoot Beats, Nervous Records and many more. He has also remixed major artists such as Bryan Ferry, Belle & Sebastian, L’Impératrice, Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice), Danielle Baldelli, Faze Action, The Orielles, Golden Dawn Arkestra  and Tensnake down in his basement studio.

Most recently Dicky has been creating original music alongside NYC music machine JKriv under the name Sentimental Animals for the Razor-N-Tape imprint. Their Love Vibration EP was very well received by disc jockeys around the world and has been played by the likes of Craig Charles who made it one of his Tracks of 2021 on his BBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul show.

Dicky became a resident DJ at Pikes in Ibiza in the summer of 2023 playing in every area - poolside, terrace, Freddies, bathtub - in this legendary club. 

He also kick started a monthly radio show out of Ibiza called International Sounds on OpenLab Radio where he showcases the music he discovers, makes and plays while travelling around the globe.

As a disc jockey, DT packs a little bit of everything into his sets of International Sounds and is committed to the idea that music and club nights should be all about escapism, joy and togetherness. 

As Dicky says love and dancing is what we need.
