Dictée Magique enregistrée le 3 mars 2022 aux Instants Chavirés, Montreuil.

La "Dictée Magique" de DJ **** et Sainte Rita est un mix à quatre platines pour disques parlants. Les voix de leurs vinyles se répondent et se coupent la parole : babil, discours, archives, reportages, poésie dada, tout fait poème dans ce collage sonore qui a pour matériau premier la voix, la phonation. Le résultat est une polyphonie où Coco le perroquet perturbe une séance d'hypnose, où Colette Magny dialogue avec Antonin Artaud et des a capella de dance. Lors de la Dictée Magique, les corps parlent eux aussi, car ce collage est également une performance où l'improvisation des deux platinistes s'apprécie visuellement et en direct, les enregistrements présentés ici ne conservant rien de leurs gestes.

DJ **** (aussi connue sous les noms de Lolo Tuerie, David Guettari et Fanny Quément), collectionne ce genre de disques depuis des années. Également autrice et traductrice, elle a intégré son intérêt pour la prosodie à ses méthodes de traduction, et développé une pratique de la lecture à voix haute. Elle a théorisé son rapport à l'écoute de ces disques dans l'article "Poèmes arrangés", disponible dans le numéro 9 de la revue Audimat.

Sainte Rita est un DJ tout terrain qui aime subvertir les règles du mix, que ce soit en club ou en contexte moins festif. Il s'intéresse aux DJ sets palindromiques, à l'archivage de la dance française méconnue, aux devinettes et à la poésie. Il en écrit aussi.

Akuphone presents a collection of recordings of various musical practices from the Laotian provinces of Champasak, Attapeu, Sekong and Saravan. These documents are a perfect introduction to the traditional music of South Laos minority groups. Popular modern music is widely spread but visitors are barely ever exposed to ancient acoustic practices from villages. The most famous and typical one is the molam Lao, an art of singing accompanied with the khene, a mouth organ which is the symbol of Laos. This collection compels one to discover the brao gongs, the triang bamboo flutes, the Lao, Ta Oy, Alak, OI, Pacoh or Nyaheun mouth organs as well as the powerful singing accompanying these instruments. 

Caught on the spot, these outstanding testimonies were collected between 2006 and 2013 by Laurent Jeanneau, aka King Gong. Through his researches, this self-taught ethnologist has gradually become one of the specialists of the field, building up a collection of complete and fascinating sound archives which contribute documenting parts of this immaterial heritage. MUSIC OF SOUTHERN LAOS brings some light on a region of South East Asia still largely unknown from the general audience as well as the recently reborn ethnographic musical industry.

This compilation will delight both molam lovers and beginners unused to South East Asian sounds. Enclosed: liner notes in English, French and Japanese as well as a downloading code.

Don’t DJ breaks rules. He takes risks. He goes with his heart and not his head. The music he makes is littered with odd sound sources, from oversized flutes to the sound of crushed plastic cups to frog noises, and his rhythms are always complex and challenging. He releases it on Fullfridge Music, Berceuse Heroique, and also runs his own Disk and is a master of fusing different sound worlds into compelling new forms. 

And that’s the case on the podcast he’s done for us. “I got drunk and recorded an all over the place old time favourites mix. it’s cursed,” he says. That means it’s a raw, instinctive selection with the mistakes left in and plenty of tough riding transitions that make it all the more thrilling. It’s exactly the kind of approach you would expect from the man: who else could squeeze in the likes of MC Hammer, Neneh Cherry, Frak and DJ Sotofett and still make it work? This is truly the work of a standalone DJ.

Phillip is a resident of Salon des Amateurs and have his monthly show on NTS Radio in London called We R All Egyptians. Jondo approaches DJing with a global perspective on club music’s unconventional niches and pathways. His selections run the gamut from percussion-heavy slow jams up to 140bpm booty bass – experimental but always with an ear tuned to the needs of the dancefloor. Together with Simon Weins , Phillip formed the group Garland, who released their debut LP Preludes #1 –a loose rhythmic offering chock-full of otherworldly magic– in 2018 via Lullabies for Insomniacs.
