The Workers' Song

Composed for a 4 chord challenge in February/March 2017 at the Piano Soundboard, with the set chord progression of Dm Am Gm C. Quite unusual for me to stick to these kind of limits!

Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from The Well-Tempered Clavier, composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.

He did these pieces for music students in 1722, and it seems that all composers and musicians from then on became his students.

The instrument is a Clavia Nord Piano 3, using a sampled Fazioli grand piano, a subtle sampled Roland SH-101 bass synthesizer, and reverb effect.

Composition Notes: 

“Go Anywhere” is a composition that originally was written in the early stages of a relationship. The spark of this new connection poured over into my music writing and helped initially birth the piece. Shortly after the initial writing of the piece though the woman told me she “didn’t see this going anywhere”. The ending opened up a vista of possibilities and freedom that carried over to the song as well. Unlike other pieces I’ve written, just when I thought I had finished writing it, a new aspect of it unfolded and revealed itself to me. Over the course of almost two years it’s continued to evolve and grow sounding very different than when it originally came to be. 

This is by no means a “final” version of the song. Even after I recorded the piece new aspects of it came to the surface. I can imagine “Go Anywhere” in a variety of instrument configurations and arrangements. I imagine it will continue to grow and evolve going wherever it chooses.
