You don’t know if you’re walking into a protest, a party, or a funeral.
Bluesy, soulful rock’n’roll.
Haunted, deep and raw. 
The kind of raw you can’t fake.

“You don’t sound like anyone else,” said Danny Thompson - legendary bassist for Nick Drake and Joe Strummer - about English producer Conil.

Tchad Blake, sonic architect for Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, agreed: “Strange Part of the Country is an amazing album. I still listen to it.”

Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green was also a fan, making a rare visit to Conil’s studio to record a mellow take on “Woke Up Around Midnight,” his smoky tribute to the jazz greats.

Conil’s distinct sound has drawn praise from Marc Ribot, Davey Graham, Pino Palladino, and John Leckie - artists and producers known for recognising the real thing when they hear it.

Upon release, Strange Part of the Country made quiet but lasting waves. Q Magazine gave it four stars and a Q Recommends stamp. Blues Matters Magazine put Conil on the cover, calling him “one of the most original artists out there.” In the U.S., “Years Between” climbed to number three on the Alternative Radio Chart.

Raised in England on the Rolling Stones, the Velvet Underground, and Tom Waits, Conil later lived in some of the world’s most musically charged cities - New Orleans, New York, Chicago, Austin and Berlin - chasing sound wherever he went.

That began early. He travelled far, met the Dalai Lama, climbed Kilimanjaro, and crossed the Himalayas - experiences that shaped his perspective and his music.

He is now finishing his long-awaited second album - recorded in New Orleans, Chicago, London and Greece - with Danny Thompson, Tchad Blake and more.

When I sit in front of my piano I wait for the muse to come and she is my guide when she comes. I have learned over the years not to give in eagerly to 'wanting to create' but rather allowing 'being guided by the muse'. It is very rewarding and I hope you enjoy.

I do get asked a bit about "the music" but it's no more, no less, than support for the songwriting at this point. Let us call each song a humble, unfinished demo, and I do very much hope you'll enjoy them in that vein. 

I sweat blood for each p'tite chanson, considering every word, every turn of the story, and every note as carefully as I am able, and they are all my dear babies. None is put on this 'Cloud unless I believe I gave it my all, and unless I really hope YOU will find something in it to enjoy.

J'espère que vous entendez : Une mélange entre Sheryl Crow et les Spin Doctors, ouvrée pour une audience Québecois—c'est le rock cru avec des vocals forts qui provient du blues et de la musique folk, avec un peu de funkiness. En ce moment, il y a seulement des vocals (et un peu de batterie avec laquelle je m'ai amusée dans certains chansons), mais c'est là que je veux de cette musique. Le message : Une peu d'humour, un peu d'amour, une peu de colère… flirty, un peu sexy, optimiste sans fin, mais sage et une pointe de lasse.

The notes I hope to hit: A cross between Sheryl Crow and the Spin Doctors, crafted for a Québec audience—a raw rock with strong vocals that draws on blues and folk music, and a little funkiness. At the moment, there’s only vocals (and a little drums I’ve played around with on a few tracks), but that’s about where I’d want the music to land. The message: A little humour, little love, little anger... flirty, a bit sexy, endlessly optimistic, but wise and a touch road-worn.

No AI tools were used!

The bottom line is that the older we get and the more we experience, the less certain we are about things we once thought we knew for sure.

So life has taught me that all I know is that I know nothing!

And I look with sadness and horror at the present state of the human world!

But - 'Moderate lamentation is the right of the dead, excessive grief the enemy to the living.'

Nieumiejętność powstrzymania się od wyciągania z uszu słuchawek i śpiewania wzbudzała zdziwienie, odrazę do tej czynności, gdyż nigdy prędzej nie zdarzało się mnie tego robić i nie czułam w tym żadnego powołania. Pierwszy raz do umysłu dotarło znane uczucie silnego przeżywania każdego z pięknych utworów głownie w głosie wokalisty/ki. Nachodzenie mnie tym dawało jednoznaczną myśl. Uważałam za niemożliwe, by mogło mi to wychodzić. Zakładałam je z powrotem. Powracałam.
Powtarzałam to wiele razy.. Aż do momentu, kiedy wyciągłam oby dwie i zaczęłam śpiewać piosenki pewnego rastamana.
Oczywiste jest to, że pierwszy raz rzadko coś komuś wychodzi, w dodatku kiedy czuje się tak dogłębnie dźwięki i zachwyca ciągniętym pięknie ku górze głosem... Zabawą nim. Może odpychać usłyszany własny. Zadręczać, gdy naprawdę czuję się potrzebę, by śpiewać.
Nie zdążyłam się zastanowić a już to znów robiłam.. Nie potrafiąc sobie wytłumaczyć, po prostu muzyką żyłam. Nie zamierzałam siebie zniechęcać.
Było to 2011 roku, kiedy zbliżało się lato.
 Pierwsze teksty dotyczyły wspaniałości, uwielbienia, wizji czystości i dostarczania zdrowia-Natura. Druga najważniejsza sprawa-'proza' życia-Miłość, jak dotąd dobrze nieznana, poniekąd przeżyta, odczuwana jako wielka potrzeba do przetrwania, klucza szczęścia, mądrości, odnalezienia celów i do nich dążenia.
A także o nienawiści, którą mnie obdarowano i którą otrzymując prościej było okazywać i uwzględniać widząc błędy ludzi/świata, gdzie ja sama się naprawiałam i krytykowałam, namawiałam, zawsze zostawałam sama..
Tego czasu wzięłam do rąk starą gitarę i wprawić się chciałam w znane piosenki. 
Nie trwało to zbyt długo, szybko stało się nudne, długo chyba trawało przekonanie siebie, że naprawdę w tym tkwię.
 Czułam jak potrzebuję przekładać każde uczucie swe na dźwięk. 
Odkrywałam to, jaką jestem nie tylko z wierzeń.

Kiedyś, ktoś bardzo pięknie powiedział mi: Ty czujesz muzykę bardziej niż artyści, którzy ją wykonują. Nie zaprzątnęło to mojej głowy, ponieważ te słowa odebrane zostały w pełni jako niezrozumiałe. Z czasem stwierdziłam, tak, to racja. Jestem niezwykła.

Sowa- artystka, wokalistka, kompozytorka, autorka wszystkich tekstów.
Prawdziwą twórczość rozpoczęła w połowie 2013 roku. Począwszy od poważnych tekstów w dziale ludzkości, problematyki złudnego postępowania (sprawiających ból i wywołujących niechęć-z własnych przeżyć i banalnych przekonań), po przez burze wywołane uczuciami, gdzie potężną świadomość prawdy nadały Boże znaki, aż skończywszy ('rozpoczynając') na wysłaniu serca potrzebą spokoju zewnętrznego jak również wewnetrznego- miłością. Czystością otoczenia i ciszą jego.

Muzyka często daje odczuć że żyjemy, pozwala też nam przeżyć. 
Moimi instrumentami są: gitara i dłonie. Tamburyn również.
