Time, devouring time, for soprano and piano (2022)

Four scenes from Lima (2022) is the result of a series of personal reflections on Lima, the most cosmopolitan city in Peru. Briefly and dynamicaly addresses some concepts that may arise from the daily life on this city.

Gray Lima (a nickname that the city has for its gray clouds) encompasses the mixed emotions and disappointment of an Andean person who arrives in the capital, which seems to offer more opportunities than living in the countryside, but whose reality can be painful and tired.

Cuatro imágenes limeñas (2022) es el resultado de una serie de reflexiones sobre Lima, la ciudad más cosmopolita de Perú. Aborda de manera breve y dinámica algunos conceptos que acerca de la vida cotidiana en la ciudad.

Lima gris (apodo de la ciudad por sus nubes grises) engloba las emociones encontradas y la desilusión de una persona andina que llega a la capital, que parece ofrecer más oportunidades que vivir en el campo, pero cuya realidad puede ser dolorosa y cansada.

In the 1980s, New York faced a crisis that had a profound impact on both its economy and its population. Vietnam War veterans, upon their return, encountered indifference and a lack of support from their country, further exacerbating their war traumas.

"Manhattan, 1980" explores the mental struggle of these veterans as they reintegrate into a society marked by crime and chaos, presenting a story that could be the story of any part of the world.

En la década de 1980, Nueva York enfrentó una crisis que impactó tanto su economía como su población. Los veteranos de la guerra de Vietnam, al regresar, se encontraron con la indiferencia y falta de apoyo de su país, lo que exacerbó sus traumas de guerra.

"Manhattan, 1980" aborda la lucha mental de estos veteranos al reintegrarse en una sociedad marcada por la delincuencia y el caos, presentando una historia que puede ser la historia de cualquier parte del mundo.

About the aria: A mother awaits the return of her son. Amid her delirium and agony, she sings a prayer that echoes in her memory: the death of God.

Text based on an anonymous Quechua poem translated into Spanish by José María Arguedas.
