BACK TO THE PIT

NAGA returns for its second offering: Immortal Mirth by Seattle-based multidisciplinary artist enereph. The 5 original works on the release were formed out of her deep contemplation of concepts ranging from Chinese cultural symbology to physical materials and the weight of navigating the human world we’ve found ourselves in.

She brings these themes into the sonic realm by weaving together influences of ambient music, Chicago footwork, the UK hardcore continuum and beyond - never failing to place her own unique imprint on each piece. enereph’s talent for orchestrating a plethora of machines is on full display, with a number of tracks birthed out of her astounding live PA sets.

The curtains open with the escalating tension of “Talisman”, a twisting soundscape of glass, metal & otherworldly sound design permeated by guttural bass drones. A mesmerizing prelude for things to come.

“Carved Nephrite” moves into faster territory, building energy with clubby kicks, cinematic bass stabs and an ear-catching arp. enereph’s knack for arrangement manifests as the track deconstructs itself midway and rebuilds into a cavernous apex.

“Cold Family” keeps the pace up with a mechanistic take on the footwork and jungle sound. The track quickly morphs through a staggering onrush of breaks, bleeps and alien sound design suited to hypnotize dancefloors at peak hours.

The fourth track moves into more atmospheric territory with splintered drums and swells of sub bass wrapped in bending chords. “Insolubility” evokes visions of a fogged-out 90s warehouse rave, dripping in futurism despite its nods to the past.

The last original track in the EP is a weightless ambient piece entitled “Numbers Fall From Stars”. Echoic synth plucks take the foreground & unfold a story through subtle moments of harmony and dissonance.

Rounding things off is a remarkable remix of “Cold Family” by Looting, a seasoned producer of shapeshifting club & ambient music and a core member of the vibrant underground community in the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories of BC.

enereph - Talisman

What happens when dubby drum & bass meets Dischord’s post-punk colossus Black Eyes? “Break” is the new EP from NY’s Relaxer, the long running alias of Daniel Martin-McCormick (Black Eyes, Ital and co-founder of Dripping), and it signals a decisive shift in his music. 

Prompted by friends to write a drum & bass live set just as Black Eyes was reuniting, the results didn’t quite fit the d&b genre. But it felt right. Quick, nimble, with room for the ferocity of his favorite post punk and some of the spaciousness of dub. Evergreen vibes, really, but seen from a fresh perspective.
 
Honed over a period of two years, the five tracks on “Break” fuse Relaxer’s careening, technoid sounds with free jazz-tinted drum programming, snarling sound design and spacious echo trails. It’s a perfect fit for 29 Speedway’s future-facing, exploratory anti-genre approach to electronics. The tape features two remixes by the singular DJ Marcelle and mastering by Dubplates & Mastering. Daniel tells his side of the story below:

“Two years ago my friends who run the drum ‘n’ bass party Headznite asked me to write a live set for a Ukraine fundraiser they were putting on. Right at the same time, my punk band Black Eyes was having our first practices in 20 years, which meant I was re-training my body to scream at top volume and high registers and to lay into my guitar at full force. In those same months, Dripping was forming and ideas were flying for crazy, boundary-pushing lineups. I had just finished writing the meditative composition suite “In Softening Air” and was feeling the call; it was time to let it rip. 

Everything poured into that live set for Headznite, and a new style was born. Relaxer had begun as a decisively techno project, but pushing the BPMs and working in drum breaks tweaked the formula enough to cut any lingering ties with that ethos. 

Over the next two years I kept on it, writing more, recording, pushing the technique and exploring the sound. “Break” is the first time any of this work has been made public. Sometimes a  detour can hack your brain. My first dance 12” as Ital was supposed to be a one-off side project to my punk band and it ended up taking over my life. Now punk music is calling asking for the debt to be repaid. Fuck it.”

Club Late Music and Morsel are happy to present a new addition to GUN-X __ a series of releases that enlarge the processes of collaboration beyond the borders of the Global URL Nation. For each project, members of the GUN community collaborate with members from another collective or label - exploring the results of cross-pollination and pooling across the global ecosystem of electronic music.

After an edition with Heel.zone in 2020 and with Hide Productions in 2023, we warmly welcome Morsel from the UK ! Morsel is a Manchester based label and arts platform inspired by literature and folklore, exaggerating the mysticism of our urban environments. Launched in 2023 only, their very just and sensitive approach convinced us instantly to extend the series with them.

For this one, Morsel wrote up a poem, which would serve as the primary source of inspiration to create a new track by musicians from both extended communities. 

It resulted in 17 tracks from Antonia XM, Bademjan, Clair X, Cralias, Dj Würm, Eurrope, excel dj, Flegma Joe, Griigg, Hajj, HR boat party, Ice_Eyes, Junior XL, Locre, Lucy Grey, Lukann, Older Brother, Pithe, Tobey, Yaka, Yauhei ASJ & Ziyiz.

“Never In My Born Days Did I See Such Night” is a collective exploration and experimentation into poetry as inspiration for composing music. The album oscillates between a sombre, dynamic landscape through a selection of heart-felt ambient tracks to bass driven club rhythms, mirroring the dark melancholic yet heavenly imagery painted in the poem. 

The album opens with angelic trance-like soundscapes decorated with glitches and robotic vocal elements that lead to a heavenly chorus of rich pads and textural field recordings. This feeling of euphoria is confronted with the latter half of the album drawing inspiration from deconstructed club music, flitting between sub basses and broken drum samples. The sludgy beats gather energy through the closing tracks through euro-dance-esque synths and electro-inspired drum patterns where they are met by the final track; an experimental collage of textures, computerised dialogues and dystopic sound bites that draw the compilation to a hypnotic close.

The release also comes with a zine of written contributions, which were inspired both by the original story, and by the tracks of the compilation, with Andres Komatsu, atrophene, Brice Reiter, Charlie O'Brien, Diana Serik, griddyeyes, Griigg, Ifuseekamy, julie nicol, Julieta Colantonio, l'autre champ d'eau, Léo Dubois, Le Spieman, Luz de Amor, Naledi Chai / Pillow Man, Older Brother, RAVEN, Solstice, & zozo.

The zine experiments with concrete poetry, broken narratives and long form writing as a response to the sonic landscape of the compilation. The collection delves into themes of longing, self discovery and hope through a textural lens reflected in the soundscapes of the album. Visual elements accompany the text facilitating melancholic narratives through depictions and arrangements of words, collage and graphics supporting the project.

For one year, all proceeds of the compilation will go towards Medical Aid for Palestinians. After that, the release will be proposed as Name Your Price, like all our other ones, and benefits will be reinvested into CLM & Morsel for upcoming projects and functioning costs. Nahash returns to SVBKVLT with Fleurs Mortes, a striking sophomore album that stands apart from fleeting trends and extravagant sound design. This record is an unfiltered reflection of Nahash's musical education —one shaped by the raw energy of ‘90s rave, hip-hop and dancehall afterparties, and the deep crates of his parents' extensive jazz and Afrobeat collection, taking influence from the anarchic spirit of Spiral Tribe to Dillinja’s legendary remixes of Björk, infused with heavy doses of Wu-Tang, DJ Premier, John Coltrane, and Archie Shepp.

Building on the themes of 2020's 'Flowers of the Revolution', this album envisions a future liberated from dystopia and oppression—a hopeful dream expressed through endless dub delays, ethereal reverbs, rave-infused drum hits, and, unexpectedly, live trumpet.

This record was years in the making, finally taking shape during a whirlwind European tour with SVBKVLT labelmates—late-night conversations, cold drinks, and ice cream fueling its final form.

The flowers may have withered, but a new season is on the horizon—one filled with love, renewal, and the scent of grilled lamb chops.

Hearthealer (Los Angeles) is a DJ, producer, and writer known for narrative world-building, big emotion, and unruly genre blends. They’ve performed their high energy club sets internationally, in venues such as OIL (Shenzhen), Creamcake (Berlin), System (Shanghai), Final (Taipei), Cakeshop (Seoul), Loopy (Hangzhou), Orbitware (Bali), and more. NEMATOCYST, Hearthealer’s hybrid collaboration with dancer Jas Lin, has toured Asia/Europe, and opened the 2024 3HD Festival in Berlin, and will soon perform with AN(8)X Fest and Tofu Collective this Summer. 

On the ambient side, Hearthealer is known for their unique “storytelling sets,” where they use a midi controller to live-perform an original short story within a DJ set.  As a writer, Hearthealer has developed an original animated fantasy series with Netflix, publishes fantasy and erotic fiction under the pen name Olivia Angelcum, and is currently in development on a rave-based animated series with the studio behind Adventure Time and Castlevania.
