We are excited to present our next special guest in the mixtape series: the legendary Chris Liebing!
Chris Liebing has been a driving force in the techno scene for decades, creating a whole genre back in the 90s with hard, fast banging techno and continuing to push the limits of electronic music today, His infectious energy and friendly demeanor have made him a beloved figure in the industry, and his dedication to elevating other artists has helped the scene flourish

Growing up in the German town of Giessen, Liebing’s journey has taken him from a passion for early electronic music to opening a nightclub (“Spinclub”), working in the Eye Q record store and an acclaimed, lasting career in techno. Dedicating himself to a life of creating and sharing music, Liebing has pioneered the European techno scene whilst always staying true to himself.His DJ sets have forever been fast-paced and immersive, physical workouts, though in more recent years they have tended towards a deeper, hybrid approach of layering multiple recordings into something uniquely his. The track selection draws from an encyclopedic knowledge of the techno genre and its history; he interacts with the crowd, intermittently smiling and retreating deep into concentration. An extensive collaboration with DJ software developer Native Instruments has provided Chris tailor-made, DJ technology for himself, and his expertise has provided the same for DJs around the world. As well as club and festival performances, Chris has a weekly radio show called AM/FM; like his involvement in the NovaMute label, it’s one of many ways he stays ahead of the curve with new music.

DifferentSound invites Chris Liebing / Podcast #209

KiKi’s passion for electronic music began in the mid-2010s, during the era of hard-hitting electro and progressive house. The massive kicks and complex synth breaks of artists like Porter Robinson and No Mana inspired his earliest production experiments, eventually guiding him toward the melodic house and techno sounds of artists like Camelphat, ARTBAT, and Cristoph. Drawing on his background as a classically trained pianist, his melody-driven productions weave rich, melancholic vocal harmonies with orchestral sound design, creating deeply emotional moments on the dance floor.

As the world transformed amidst the 2020 pandemic, so too did KiKi’s sound evolve into something darker, more intense, and infused with the relentless energy of peaktime and minimal techno. Inspired by his deep love for space and the mysteries of worlds beyond our own, his music contrasts the ethereal atmospheres of shimmering nebulae and distant expanses with the cold precision of computer-driven technology. This duality defines his hybrid sound, shifting fluidly between the analytical exactness of raw techno and the organic emotion of melodic house.

Since his project began in March 2022, KiKi has released several singles as well as his debut EP ‘Resistance’. Based in Miami, Florida, he hosts a weekly live mix series on Twitch as well as a monthly podcast ‘Gates of Pandora’.
