Back with his first EP for Diffrent since 2017’s ‘Expat’, Mauoq opens up a can of psychedelic earworms ready to wriggle their way into your record box.

Leading us down the wormhole is the undulating ‘Sheworm’ and its sinuous dub vibe. ‘Millipede’ comes full of urgent whispers and scuttling percussion, swelling up into a monstrous glob of low-end post-breakdown. ‘Taxon’ ups the pace, pairing a lively step with seismic charges of bass, before ‘Fluke’ finally delivers a coup de grâce of mind-altering gurgles and guttural throbs. 

This is Mauoq at his finest — the Italian’s signature blend of shadowy, skewed and intoxicating sounds turned up to eleven.

The full ‘Can of Worms’ EP drops digitally on Friday 13th December (we don’t believe in bad luck), with a super limited run of 10” pressings available at the Clashmouth Drum & Bass Label Market on Saturday 9th November.

Thanks bruv, means a lot. I actually started out on FL years ago. I would say the best way to learn is just to educate yourself on the basics. Read the forums, soak up knowledge. A great source is the production bible available on Dubstepforum.com.

Also, writing music requires patience and understanding. The best way to gain understanding about your synths and sound design is to just play around with them, trying different things and learning what each knob does. It won't sound very good at first but once you have a good grasp on what you are doing, you will be able to fine tune the sound and shape it how you like. I think that this can't be taught very easily though, it has to be learned and the only way to learn it is to do it, a lot.
