Waveguide might seem like a new artist addition to a.r.t.less’ roster, but it’s Mojuba’s japanese mainstay Stereociti presenting his new alter ego focussing on Techno side of things. In contrast to Stereociti Waveguide is approaching different methods in sound design and actual composition ranging back to the raw energy of the very beginning of Ken Sumitani’s musical journey.
Quod EP starts off with the title track and immerges you instantly into a sonic sea of swirling repetitive chords, riding on the wave of a steady ever forwarding bass tone carried by the steady kick and graced with echoing synth stabs and syncopated hats along the way.
The second track Tightrope is raising the tempo propels you right into to space on a funky broken beat lurching through space debris and stardust while catch glimpses of beautiful supernovas while trying to elude those gravitational forces caused by black holes.
Lemma the EP’s third title is carrying on the tempo and the broken funk if its predecessor but delivers a friendlier outlook with whirling and swelling melodies, like it wants to prepare you for the final adventure of this tonal journey.
Cubic Root closes out the first Waveguide mission on Mojuba sub label a.r.t.less with an orchestra of tripping acid basslines accompanied by dripping like synth leads exploring the polymetric realm of Techno in an always evolving echo chamber. Our next mix comes from DJ and producer Nastia Y. Born in Israel, Nastia learned her craft in China playing sets made up of electro/breakbeat, acid and techno in venues for 7 years, until she moved back to Tel Aviv in 2019. From there she started producing and has already landed 2 EP's coming out soon, including the collaborated EP 'Feel The Force' with UK based CYBEREIGN, releasing on Diffuse Reality. After a short holiday break we are happy to share the next Rubber Tijd with you. We warmly welcome our first artist of the year and number 81 on the show: Eddie Peake. 

For this podcast Peake presents Memory Cycle 2, an audio piece from a series of sound works he has been making in recent years.

“They are an attempt to recreate as definitive recordings the live DJ sets I play in my performance work. Whereas in my performances they are ephemeral and reactive, here they are somewhat more calculated, although in both instances, chance and coincidence is important. They are collages of looping motifs drawn from a palette of original recordings, voice memos and field-recordings to evoke a sense of nostalgia, the subjective and inaccurate nature of memories, the repetitive and spiralling ideation of an obsessive or psychopathic mind.”

Eddie Peake is a London based Artist and DJ and his work includes performance, video, photography, painting, sculpture, sound and installation. It has tended to take the form of non-linear, immersive exhibitions, usually presented as a web of incongruously and yet inextricably connected discrete objects. Looping or repetitive forms are a prominent element, as is the theme of the inadequacy of verbal language in representing phenomena such as emotions, memories or modes of communication which are not verbal. Another of its foci is the implicit drama within relationships between people, whether they are familial, professional, romantic, sexual or social, and how desire, sexuality, socio-political and cultural constructs, as well as psychological states such as depression impact on them. Peake also DJs under a pseudonym and runs a record label imprint called Hymn.
