Challenge #21 Brief: 

Last month I released my latest Two Silhouettes album ‘SWOON’. A handful of people were interested in remixing songs from it. I thought I would go one step further, and export all the audio from the album and invite members of the Fearless Few to each pick a song to remix.

So Fearless Few challenge #21 is this:

1) Choose any song from the album SWOON (whichever you hate the least!), and tell me which one you’ve picked in the comments below. I’ll then send you a link to a folder of audio stems you can download, as soon as possible.

2) Remix the song however you like. How you do so is completely up to you. You can simply tweak it, or you can completely reinvent the track and make it unrecognisable. Use as much or as little of the original as you like. You’re welcome to only use the vocals if you prefer, or to make it instrumental. Any genre of remix is equally welcome.

3) I’m going to suggest people spend about 180 minutes on remixing their chosen song, however you are welcome to spend any number of hours that you wish (just perhaps mention how many hours you spent when submitting).

4) You have until Thursday 28th of December to submit. This is just a target date, so it’s not life or death if you’re late submitting – better late than never. Submit by simply uploading to Soundcloud and linking on this page.

5) I will send a £30 gift voucher for a music download website to the producer of my favourite remix, who I will also hype on social media. Everyone who submits a remix will get a free download code for the original album. And, if people are ok with the idea – every entrant would receive a free download code for a compilation of the remixes. Plus I’d be happy to return the favour and remix songs by the entrants if invited to.

To make things a little quicker, I’ve included some information about tempo, time signatures, scales and notes with the stems. All the audio has been bounced so that it lines up and the AIF files can be arranged with ease. I’ve also tried to include files without effects where perhaps useful. If anyone would like a dry version of a file that isn't available in the folder, I should be able to arrange this.

(I’ve checked with the singers and musicians who contributed to the songs that they’re ok with this challenge, and they’re excited by the idea. I want members to feel absolutely free to share the remixes on Soundcloud, YouTube and social media etc, as long as the title shows it’s a remix of a Two Silhouettes song. However, if anyone has further ideas for using the audio, I would need to run this by my bandmates, especially if someone wants to distribute, publish or profit from the audio we created. Similarly, I would not do anything with the remixes without permission, or try to profit from them.)

Spent about 4 hours on it. I had a dream that I sampled David Attenborough on it so I woke up and went with the idea.

I went through three different ideas for this remix before sticking with this. I tried to follow the minimalistic melody of the original but it was difficult without it sounding too forced or too much like the original. I began with pitching the vocal to find a melody and then everything else fell together around that.
