I put everything into this set. All of the originals i played save one were made in the age of covid. Each song i thought about playing at eso, and they all carry messages encouraging the world to face the darkness of our times, embrace it, and to continue to survive and love despite such a terrible environment. It was inspired by intense mental anguish and the otherwordly experiences that made me face the darkness of this anguish and guided me towards healing through it. I wanted people to feel all ive felt over the past few years, the good and the bad. I want people to achieve enlightenment through the knowledge that they can survive traumatic experiences and still retain humanity, love for others and appreciation of all we take for granted so often. 

We have lost many people in many different ways since the last esoteric and this set was dedicated to those people, and the community that helped me to survive and supported me and their friends to get to where we are now. 

You're healing, you're always healing, whether your injured, depleted, or heartbroken. You can rise again. You might never be the same person, but you're given another chance to live, and that is a beautiful thing.

- BIO -
Dirge is the Twilight Psytrance project of Melbourne born Mike O'Shard.

For 10 years he has spread a sinister signal across Australian dance floors - a dark broadcast, transmitted by shadow; a message sent by the frequency of night.

Mike currently represents MMD Records from Cape Town, South Africa and manages the Ascension Stage at Esoteric Festival in Donald, VIC.


- CONCEPT -
A 'Dirge' is defined as a lament for the dead; as a mournful song, piece of music or sound. 

Almost a decade ago in the moonlit forest of Mount Disappointment, a strange message was received. Subtle at first; a barely perceptible hum underneath the noise of the local broadcast network, it was transmitted with one purpose - to corrupt the mind of a local human target and spread, relentlessly. Within the darker reaches of its human host body's imagination, this message would bide its time and grow - as a quiet voice in the darkness; as a ghost in the machine - until one day, it would be noticed.

On the surface, all was normal - a day like any other, until a disruption was felt within the network. It was only the slightest of shimmers; a most subtle shift in the pitch of the broadcast's frequency - but for one small moment, the broadcast faltered and faded out long enough for the disruption to be registered on the system. A team was deployed to investigate. 

Investigating the disruption, the message was discovered - and was identified as virulent. It had grown in such great measure that the network's signal, once thought to be untouchable, had been hijacked entirely. The broadcast was now a distorted shade of its former self. 

No-one had noticed the message spread, nor the signal grow. No-one had heard it whisper, as it redirected every connection on the network's server. No-one had heard its screams of contempt and rage, as it ceaselessly multiplied itself in the background... 

No-one had time to respond as the Signal, now a seething cacophony of sound, swallowed the network whole. 

The disruption had not been felt within the original network - there was nothing of it left. The disruption had been felt as the last remainders of the original network were extinguished, leaving only a strange and sinister signal in its place.

In that moment, a new message was received - one word, uttered in an unfamiliar tongue; in an endlessly repeating loop - "Dirge..."
