Hi. My name is Marc Weidenbaum and I was invited to participate in the SoundCloud Heroes project, which SoundCloud has described as a collection of individuals "who bring people together around sound by cultivating and engaging unique communities." It's an honor to be included. I write about music and I work with musicians on collaborative projects, such as the <a href="https://soundcloud.com/disquiet/sets/instagr-am-bient"><i>Instagr/am/bient</i></a> compilation and the ongoing <a href="https://soundcloud.com/groups/disquiet-junto/">Disquiet Junto community</a>.

I've created this little introduction at the request of the folks in the SoundCloud Community department. The audio provides a bit of autobiography — who I am, where I am, what I'm up to — and I've embedded related links. I recorded this at home in San Francisco, California, on Sunday, January 13, 2013.

Marc Weidenbaum (What I'm Up To)

Hey everyone!  I'm predominately a singer songwriter, my style is an intimate acoustic folk. Most of my tracks on here are sketches, in their most raw and vulnerable state. My truths. My therapy. The incredible support from this community gives me the courage to keep writing and posting, imperfections and all. SoundCloud has kind of changed my life and for that I will be forever grateful. I've also had the opportunity to work on some incredible collaborations with some amazingly talented artists. My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.

I was born with a suitcase heart and prepared to travel.
I am a visual thinker, deductive reasoner and a professional problem solver living in San Francisco.
