I started to compose that song with my brother a while ago and always got stuck after it ends... what could we add? The Disquiet Junto 0379 project is a great opportunity to get your feedback on that!

Paradox  - disquiet0379

This is an ambient guitar improv, using essentially two pedals & two sounds. Very quick editing for the intro, followed by two passes of guitars for the main bit and chunks of noisier overdubs later on, recorded at the beginning of the session and initially intended to be the musical "motif". 

This took about an hour and a bit, which is to say it's nowhere near where it could be so Junto participants' valued feedback on where to take this very much invited & appreciated! Thanks.

recorded a quick loop in iris 2 demo:
cello, violin, viola samples
paulstretched x2 in audacity
allowed that weird warp stutter in live 8
ambient reverb, vinyl warp and wear decreasing throughout
duplicated track an octave higher ran through podfarm guitar fx gradually faded in

my 'studio' (pictured) is hidden behind the tv, and then diffuse throughout the house with instruments all over. similarly,  my process is kind of diffuse -  they're all sketches; i approach music like, i dunno, a genetic algorithm: i make hundreds of tracks a year and i assume that naturally they'll get better (quickly completed) without me really trying (at the mo i seem to apply a high fitness function to cello drones and guitar noise, hypnotic repetition and slow movement!)

that said i'm happy to get feedback too: it's just that it tends to percolate into future work in a more gradual manner if it aligns with what i'm doing (and just as likely if i disagree fundamentally i'll double down in the opposite direction (cf paulstretch))

Waves Of Silver (draft) [disquiet0379]

I created the side project "Murmurer" to explore more minimal audio that wasn't as layered and narrative as the tracks that I produce as Blunderspublik. This track contains three elements (right now): a modulating drone that creates overtones and pulsing rhythms as its phasing changes, punctuating sets of two notes with added waves of noise, and a set of notes that pluck randomly later in the track. Feedback would be appreciated!

MD Baiao [ disquiet0379 ]

The section that opens the track was recorded straight to file some months ago when I first started with playing with Alchemy. Did not note or save the patch :( -- it must have been a simple tweak to a preset, but I'm not sure which one. Trying to recreate it from basis of a preset called "Intimate Weavers" -- photo is what I have so far, and you can hear it in the "B" section of the clip. Lot of ideas for developing the music but right now feel stuck on recreating that sound!

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
