Summer Promo Mix

This has been titled a soundtrack over anything else. Yes it has a backbone and bed of dance music tracks but the entire project that Expediton has become involved more multitrack production and field recordings alongside several dozen sound design elements throughout the entire project. If your looking for a dj set to just dance to, this probably isn't for you. If your looking to melt into a multitude of natural ambiance and environments with some obscure under tones and trippy sound design, this is absolutely for you. Aside from the over two hour set recorded, there are over three dozen field recordings layered upon several dozen sound design elements to take you all on an expedition. Sure, it gets a little silly and probably weird at a moment or two, but I had fun with it!
I started this mix series years back in hopes to take the listener on a journey and I feel like this is pulling you into the mix deeper then it typically would. I really enjoyed working on this and hope you enjoy listening! 
Optimum listening experience would be in either a set of headphones or on some nice monitors. The stereo field gets wide at some points and the placement on some elements shifts around the stereo field.

I was asked to support the label launch party for Restless Planet Records at Timbre Room, and it was a chance to dive into a more minimalistic sound that I had not yet explored. I love having the opportunity to try out new genres, while also being given the space to stay true to myself, and as always, keep it weird. I hope you enjoy listening to this genre-hopping journey.

3 QUESTIONS to HOLLIS P MONROE:

Q) Tell us about your mix. How did you select the tracks for this podcasts and what do they mean for you? 

A) Basically, I chose songs that have personal significance to me. Most of the artists are people that I know personally and have influenced me in some way. In the cases where i've included a song that is directly related to me, it represents a milestone in my life and/or career. 

Q) You are living in Montreal / Canada. What exactly is the difference to Europe concerning our electronic music scene and the nightlife? 

A) From what I've experienced so far in the cities I've visited in Europe, there seems to be much more awareness, understanding and respect for electronic music in general from the average person. It makes for an interesting blur of the line between what is considered mainstream and what is considered underground… 

Q) You are on tour in Europe since January and based in Berlin. Which cool places did you see and when are you coming for the next time? 

A) For me, it's more about the people I've met and interacted with. It has been a very inspiring and motivating experience in that regard. Most likely, I'll be back in the spring/summer of 2015 with my musical partner Overnite. Right now, we are putting the finishing touches on our album for Sonar Kollektiv as The Black 80s and sorting out how we will present it in a live performance format. Then we'll be taking our show on the road…

"Here is my set recorded from DISTRIKT 2017, Tuesday 3 pm. It was a record hot Burn this year and the day already blazing. With 10 minutes before my set, a mob of clouds rolled in to save the day. The crowd started filling in quickly. I kept it weird, deep, dark, light, techy, minimal with a splash of dub, and always fucking groovy. The Funkworks Funktion One's are always a pleasure to play on, especially with Cody Kane dialing the sound. And the stage this year was so dope. 

Camping with DISTRIKT was an awesome experience. The amount of energy, blood, sweat, and love that goes into this camp is incredible. Much respect to my DISTRIKT family. You are all crazy and I love you all!

I am blessed to share my passion with everyone. This year was full of challenges and many rewards. This moment was one of the highlights of my existence."

Returning to Burning Man for me means returning to the DISTRIKT stage. This marks 3 years that I have been lucky enough to play at DISTRIKT.  Each year has been better than the last.  I kicked off the week feeling fresh with a rowdy set just before sunset for a crowd that came to rage. Mondays on the Playa beat any day in the real world.  For those that were there thank you for helping create the magic that is DISTRIKT.
