Our deepest gratitude to everyone that played on this record. In addition to the band (Andy Beargie, Ned Joyner, Glenn Myers), this music wouldn't have been possible without Zac Canale (lead guitar), Peter Doyle (pedal steel), Ben Fowler (bari sax), Gabe Garber (lead guitar) and Charlotte Wager Miller (vox and clarinet).

We also want to thank our partners, Addie, Charlotte and Julia, for putting up with the disruption brought about by the long days and late nights during which this album was recorded and produced.

We recorded it at Andy's studio—Blockhouse—in Bloomington Indiana. Andy engineered the sessions, and mixed and mastered the album. Ned did most of the comps and edits. All the songs were produced by us.

- The first five songs were all written by Ned.
- "Ballad of Hollis Brown" was written by Bob Dylan.
- "He Was a Friend of Mine" is a traditional song with many songwriter's fingerprints on it. No one knows who wrote the seed. Its first attestation is a field recording by Alan Lomax from 1939.
- "Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007: I. Prélude" was written by Johann Sebastian Bach
- "Long Black Veil" was written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and was first recorded and popularized by Lefty Frizzell
