Eric Labbé has been producing music under the name Poison Gauchiste since 2020. Before that, he was better known as a DJ, event organizer, and nightlife activist who played a key role in revitalizing the Parisian scene over the past fifteen years.

But that doesn't make him a newcomer to music. His new alias (a tongue-in-cheek jab at the general shift to the right) is simply the continuation of a winding musical journey that includes jazz (he was once a drummer) and electroclash (with the duo Headphone Karaoké in the 2000s).

What might be somewhat unique about his music is that he’s never tried to filter out his wide-ranging influences — from bebop to krautrock, afrobeat, Italo disco, and American minimalism — all of which resurface subliminally in his tracks structured by a classic yet joyful Detroit-Berlin electronic grammar.


"Musique Pour Enfiler Des Perles" is the third EP by Poison Gauchiste, aka Eric Labbé, following "Musique Pour Faire Différentes Choses" and "Musique Pour Monter En Haut". It is the result of a slow maturation process, shaped by summer idleness and long winter evenings over the past two years. The EP features five compositions that, as always, blend quirky influences with distinctly personal oddities.

Caution: several of these tracks contain rhythms that might inspire dancing — though it’s unclear whether listeners will actually follow through, given the spells of languor and melancholy that occasionally drift onto the dancefloor...



"Le Junkie Du Cosmos" ("The Cosmos Junkie") is both a bold statement about my fondness for altered states of consciousness and a love letter to astrophysics and cosmology. Its full title is “Le junkie du cosmos sauvé par JB” ("The Cosmos Junkie Saved by JB") because Jean-Baptiste Madry did the final edit at a moment when I was this close to giving up on it. And now it’s the one that works best, in my opinion, in the middle of a house set — so thanks, JB.

Summer is slowly but surely coming to an end and the nights are getting longer again. What could be more fitting than an EP called Night Shades? Responsible for this is Berlin artist Jiggler, one half of former Bar 25 favourite Channel X. He has been causing a stir with his solo project for many years, including releases on Stil vor Talent and Katermukke. The first track, Night Shades, which shares its name with the EP, captivates with its driving groove and wonderfully dreamy yet uplifting lead synth. With the second original, Voyager, the journey through the night continues seamlessly, albeit in a more rousing and darker way. Jiggler is supported by a total of three artists with their own interpretations of the originals: Richard Elcox, the Scottish Berliner by choice, who was already playing around with his brother's Korg MS-20 at the age of 11 and the well-known Matija and Contenance here in Zurich. The former has been part of the local scene for over three decades, the latter is well on his way to emulating Matija.

Out 26th September via Crosstown Rebels, ‘Magickal Remixed (Part II)’ enlists the talents of Cinthie, Timo Maas, and Anthony Middleton, with each of the three celebrated artists bringing their unique perspective to the Crosstown head’s latest long-player. Opening the release, Berlin favourite Cinthie takes on ‘Y Don’t U’, injecting her signature analogue warmth and groove-driven touch into the album cut, reworking it into a silky, floor-focused workout that radiates her unmistakable house sound. Longstanding innovator Timo Maas steps up next with his remix of ‘Warrior Dance’, Lazarus’ amapiano-inspired collaboration with Ghanaian artist Jojo Abot. Stripping back and rebuilding the track into a hypnotic, low-slung affair, Maas balances subtle percussive detail with deep, pulsating basslines to create an intoxicating new dimension. Closing out the EP, Anthony Middleton, formerly one half of Audiofly, reshapes the soulful ‘So Low’ featuring Zoe Kypri into a textured and emotionally charged journey, weaving its vocal lines through expansive sound design and rolling grooves.
As Damian unveiled at the album’s initial shock drop, ‘Magickal’ was conceived as a complete body of work, capturing clarity, transformation, and a deepened sense of connection. With ‘Magickal Remixed’, that world is opened up further, with close friends and esteemed peers recasting its tracks in their own artistic languages, providing a multifaceted exploration of the original record’s spirit and purpose.

INTERVIEW

1. How would you describe your sound?
"I can describe my sound as emotional and melancholic, with a fat melodic bassline, hypnotic melodies and heavy beats. I always try to transmit something in every track, introducing the listener to a journey, trying to make them feel.”

2. How did you learn producing?
“I started by my own, doing something more indie with any resources which were only my guitar and my laptop. One year after that I decided to take a short course about using Ableton Live. I learned how to use the DAW but I needed a lot of practice and other perspectives. So I spend all my hours doing music, in contact with other producers and watching tutorials.” 

3. What keeps you going?
“I love to make music and the lots of positive feedback about my music. It's the reason that makes me keep on going. There are also other reasons like to see people enjoying with my music and dancing.”

4. DAW?
“Ableton Live”

5. Most exciting club moment?
“There are a lot of exciting moments at the club, but in general the best moments are when the people enjoy with your music, dance and connect with you. That is the best, it’s magic!”

6. What do you listen to besides electronic music?
“I like lots of different styles of music like rap, rock, indie, r&b, classic, funky and more. I love the music of the 80s and 90s, too. One of my favourite rock bands is Radiohead.“

7. You in 10 years?
“I hope to still be doing what I love, music, but with more knowledge and gear, and always trying to do my best.”

8. Next release?
“An EP on Timeless Moment, it’s a Brazilian Label.”

9. What you can’t stand?
“Hot beer”

Especially dance music allows us to unify with the flow of the music. When we express the energy it releases within us, by just giving ourselves to it and following the spontaneous and authentic movements of our bodies, we can experience a state of connection, peace and joy. Doing this collectively, synchronously moving to the same rhythm and sharing this special experience, we feel a connection that resonates within.

With DIT KLINGT JUT we want to express our love for music and manifest the meaning it can have for all of us. We do this by providing a thoughtfully curated space for artists and labels to share their music, organizing events & live-streams and serving as a platform to share ideas on music and the creative process.
