String Theory

It's been a long time. I've taken a year off to properly learn production and you know what, it was pretty fun! Met a lot of cool fellow musicians as well.

This is a song I actually wrote for a songwriting competition at the school: we had an hour to write a song and we were giving lyrics from another song: Black Friday from Steely Dan. I actually finished the song pretty easily: took me about 15 minutes but the production was the hard part, took me sometime and a few remakes to get to this version. Enjoy!

Thought I would do something a bit more chill, after the piano concerto. So this is a serenade or nocturne, if you will. The title is a play on the famous work Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, (A Little Night Music.)

It's kind of Russian, Rachmaninoff-like. I like the rhythms and the horns. It's kind of back to the short form and using key relationships rather than worrying about transitions.
