Dust Devil

Astronox Festival in Texas, October 2022. A rare thing occurred - I got to play a two-hour closing set at the end of the insanely inspiring lineup of Saturday night, before a morning sound break. There are some major wiggles in this set, of the crunchy/glitchy variety, in keeping with the flow for the night. Ending with some gentle touches, like a sonic hug.

This collection of atmospheric deepstep tracks is further along on the continuum of the Subtextures compilation that I put together for Interchill Records back in 2016. It took a few years to assemble and was made for the digital artist Android Jones (www.androidjones.com) who generously let us use a piece of his phenomenal art for the Subtextures cover design.

@DesertDwellers  is the convergence of music producers Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, who honed their individual crafts in the mystical deserts of California and New Mexico, long before electronic music reached mainstream. Amani and Treavor combine the raw sounds of the natural world, wrapped in dance-floor and chill-out productions; blending deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices, and cross-cultural instrumentation into a sonic incense for the mind and body. Desert Dwellers’ unique global sounds are a bridge between worlds, and their label Desert Trax has become a platform to spotlight similar alchemical artists. Desert Dwellers’ studio output is matched only by their extensive touring history, which juxtaposes performances at America’s most iconic festivals like Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, and Coachella, with high-powered sets at the biggest trance festivals around the world; BOOM in Portugal and Rainbow Serpent in Australia. DJ Maggie carefully curates the best of downtempo electronic into lush, playful and deeply replenishing sets that invite listeners on shimmering audio odysseys. Whether leading flights to the depth of the heart or the outer dimensions of the cosmos, Maggie pilots music masterfully as a multi-dimensional tool—for joy enhancement, energy boosting, community building, a safe space for retreat, a salve for helping heal pain, or a focus-enhancing medium to optimize creativity or productivity.

Evolving her own brand of intuitive sound at the legendary Southern California desert gatherings of the groundbreaking Moontribe Collective and other conscious parties and festivals, Maggie soon established a reputation for her heart-expanding sonic rides. This eventually propelled her into the path of her current collaborations with esteemed downtempo artist and producer, Bluetech (Evan Bartholomew) and their labels Behind the Sky and  Over the Moon. Her first compilation, a 2xLP entitled ‘Matters of the Heart,’ was released in June 2021 on Behind The Sky, and she began releasing through Over the Moon in October 2021.
