Conceptualized in 2013, Colombian artists Alejo Cortes and Carlos Lopez aka NuFects decided to undertake a project full of energy, joy, colour and intrigue. They started producing progressive and organic house under the name NuFects, quickly earning recognition from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Cid Inc, along with very important local talents Dabeat, Gux Jimenez and Kamilo Sanclemente. Also finding a place in the more melodic uptempo realms of the genre, legends Paul Oakenfold and Solarstone became NuFects supporters, playlisting their music and making the duo a legit crossover act. 2023 has proved to be a prolific year for NuFects, releasing standout projects via Clubsonica, Movement Recordings, Suza Records and WARPP. The duo also took to re-imagining Sasha's classic production 'Belfunk' earlier this year, an unofficial and in demand remix which has featured in their sets of late, and is now available as a free download. What an honour to feature as one of the closing sets for Wizard of Kingston's renegade stage at Rabbits Eat Lettuce 2024: Alice in Discoland!

This was the first full psy set I've ever played to a crowd, and felt it fitting to end with the very first psy track I ever played live (tacking it onto the end of a tech house set as a test run a year ago - it went down a treat). 
This set features some of my favourite Arcade & Electro psy tracks that I've added to my library since, jam-packed with bounce, energy and chaotic silliness. Please enjoy.

Being part of the 90's Chicago/Midwest rave scene, I fell in love with Trance and Deep House, and was lucky enough to make friends with greats such as Dan Efex, Paul Johnson, and Mystic Bill.  I started spinning in that time period but didn't play out until 98' in Honolulu, Hawaii, when I was stationed there in the military.  Under the moniker NuTek, I headlined raves and held several residencies at local clubs playing classic and epic trance alongside and often co-headlining with legends such as Sandra Collins, Lady Miss Kier, Kimball Collins, Qbert, Danny the Wildchild and ESP to name a few.

 Upon moving back to Chicago in 2000, I reinvented my style of music moving away from the epic style of trance and picked up goa/psychedelic style as well as the occasional deep house set.  In 2001, I was honored to be sponsored by the world renowned psychedelic trance label Chaos Unlimited (closed in the late 2000's) in Brighton, U.K.  A move to Denver with a change in lifestyle went hand-in-hand with a ten year hiatus from playing gigs.  In that timeframe I never stopped creating new mixes and have had the honor of creating a CD for Onward Recordings of Argentina and most recently a homage mix to my personal trance hero Dan Efex following suit to quite possibly the most iconic hard acid trance mixtape of all time, Plixx (circa 1995).

With a new outlook on my music making/composing and a rebranding to simply Neil Michael, my focus was strictly house music, alternating between jacking and deeper in style.  While playing out is not a priority anymore, making and releasing professional recordings is my absolute passion, especially in collaboration with some of my old friends and house legends.  One thing that I absolutely pride myself on is that no matter what medium I use to mix with, there has never been, nor will there ever be, the use of a sync feature or controllers for ease of mixing.  Coming from the school of vinyl, I believe that DJ'ing is a craft, a skill.  Removing that difficult portion of the art means I am no longer invested in my personal talent and development.  

These days I’ve been getting back into hard trance, acid trance, GOA, and progressive trance as well as deep house, jackin house and occasionally DnB.
