The sixth release of „WHATIPLAY“, is at the same time the second release of Sascha Braemer at the young label. The original version of “Et Voilà” is already a very dynamic track and invites you to the dance floor of the club. Christoph’s remix of “Et Voilà” wants to go one better and therefore it is hard to make a decision. Luckily you don’t have to. Instead, you just listen to both of them.
Chilling melodies go hand in hand with smooth and harmonic vocals. Those are the characteristics of “Égoïst”. A track you could also enjoy literally all by yourself.

Das 6. Release von "WHATIPLAY" ist zugleich das 2.Release von Sascha Braemer auf dem jungen Berliner Label. Et Voilà lädt bereits in der Originalversion mit seiner ansprechenden Dynamik unweigerlich zum Tanzen ein und ist prädestiniert für die Dancefloors der Clubs. Christoph setzt mit seinem Remix von Et Voilà gleich noch einen drauf und es fällt schwer sich für einen Track zu entscheiden. Glücklicherweise muß man das aber auch gar nicht und tanzt einfach beide Tracks durch.
Entspannte Melodien mit einem schönen und harmonischen Vocal bestimmen den Auftritt von Égoïst, ein Track, den man in Anlehnung an seinen Namen getrost auch mal ganz allein für sich genießen kann.

Eric B & Rakim are one of my favourite Hip Hop duos, growing up listening to Stu Allen play “I Know You Got Soul” on his Saturday night “Key 103 Show” that I’d listen to religiously every week. I even sent a mix tape into his show for a competition, I didn’t win but, I was made up when he gave me a mention. Big up to the legend and a massive inspiration to me, Stu Allen.
Juice (Know The Ledge) was released in December 1991 as one of the songs on the soundtrack album of the movie “Juice” starring Tupac Shakur, then released later in 1992 on their own album “Don’t Sweat The Technique” and as a 12 inch on MCA Records (CAT# MCA 12-54381).
This is a ridiculous beast of an uptempo Hip Hop track that gave me goosebumps, got me toes tapping and bum wiggling whenever I dropped either the main or instrumental, even mixing the 2 together coz this track is so good. Wicked memories of The Man Alive whenever I hear this.
I’ve edited the main and instrumental mixes together coz I wanted to do an extended version of this true Hip Hop classic.

i always thought Shawn was a lad who was mates with Milli Vanilli until I recently found out he was a she. I never liked the vocal mix so I only ever played the rather super Redzone dub, which I've edited here - hope you like it, NiPZ;)

Berlin-based DJ and production duo Tale of Us take a step back from their busy touring and production schedule to compile the latest instalment of Renaissance's 'The Mix Collection' series. 

“We put this mix together in Mexico, looking out at a beautiful sea in a magical spot in the Yucatan, surrounded by friends and label mates as we recovered from an intense new year's and BPM rush. It was the perfect setting to take on something like this, looking back at the year behind us, not concerned so much by genres and boundaries as much as by assembling a musical picture of where we're at, where we've been and most importantly a little bit of where we're going. Each of the two mixes is a journey unto itself but together they can be seen as our musical chiaroscuro, reflecting a bit of the two sides of the way we think both about DJing and producing. It's hard to confine ourselves to just over 2 hours when there is so much music we've fallen in love with but this is the best reflection of this moment in time for us. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.”

Throughout their first mix the duo move effortlessly between the driving aesthetics of Kollektiv Turmstrasse and anthemic highs of Scuba to more experimental and angular remixes from Baths and Four Tet. The second mix takes a distinctly more mininal approach, with the textures of Daniel Avery, Recondite, Robert Hood and Extrawelt's productions taking the driving seat and remixes from the likes of Donato Dozzy and DJ Koze switching up already excellent originals. Across both mixes Tale of Us have managed to balance the deep, melodic, upbeat and sometimes more challenging elements of electronic music through careful selection and programming to ensure both have the flow and finesse that listeners have come to expect of a Renaissance release.

Tale of Us are certainly no strangers to the decks, between throwing their own 'Just This' secret loft parties in Milan, regular fixtures at renowned clubs such as Berlin's Watergate, Ibiza's DC10 as well as live and DJ sets at festivals such as Sonar and Movement. Alongside this, their productions have caught the attention of Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss, who released their debut EP on Visionquest in 2011. 

The Mix Collection series saw it's inaugural 1994 release from Sasha & John Digweed, who set a new standard for the DJ compilation format. Since then Renaissance has undergone a musical shift, with recent contributions from M.A.N.D.Y., Gui Boratto and now Tale of Us helping to bring the original spirit of the brand to a new generation of music aficionados.
