The Moment (February 2022)

As I've gotten older it's become clear that nothing is as important as your health and your family - and not just biological family, anyone who you're fortunate enough to consider family.  I am thankful this holiday season for my girls and extended family, my trusted friends, my Chosen Few family, my SNL family, my law family, and my extended house music family.  Inspired today to record a mix for the first time in nearly a year and 3 hours later here we are...  Hope you enjoy it!  AK

Can't tell you how thankful I am to have a second bite at the apple at this DJ thing. As many of you know, my first DJ "hey day" was in the late '70s and early '80s before I took a detour pursuing life. To be able to come back and do what I love, and to still have people--old fans and new ones--appreciate and enjoy what I do, is very special and not something I take for granted. Still coming down from the high that was the 25th Anniversary Chosen Few Picnic! We did it our way and it was everything we planned and could've hoped for! Best of all we were able to share it with our friends and loved ones and fellow DJs and artists whom we love, respect and admire and who have made major contributions to house music...and we gave our guests an outstanding show and an unforgettable experience!

Known as a “lawyer by day, DJ by night,” Alan King is one of the early members of the legendary Chicago-based DJ crew, the Chosen Few DJs (now consisting of Alan, Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Terry Hunter, Andre Hatchett and Mike Dunn).  In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, the Chosen Few DJs was a group of popular DJs from the city’s south side who played their unique brand of soulful dance music to huge crowds at Chicago night spots of historic importance in the birth and development of house music, including Sauer’s, First Impressions, the Playground and the Loft.  Alan’s influence on the house music landscape has been felt for more than 30 years, and he has been cited as an inspiration by countless DJs including legendary house music DJs and producers Frankie Knuckles, Steve "Silk" Hurley and Chip E.  Alan still regularly plays to rave reviews at clubs and events throughout Chicago and the U.S.  The Chosen Few DJs also host the annual Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic each July 4th weekend in Chicago, one of the largest and longest running house music festival events in the world!
