My life-long love affair with hip-hop has finally led me to dj'ing as of the fall of 2012. I'm new at this, but I believe loving the music you play and helping people to enjoy themselves is the most important thing.

“Have a good time, and don’t take yourself too seriously.” These words spoken by DJ Applebaum, describe her sound perfectly. Think: packed dancefloors, summertime, and having fun. When she plays a set, Applebaum is just as likely to play a Golden Era crowd-pleaser as an underground house anthem – as long as it gets the party moving. 

It comes as no shock Applebaum is an expert at rocking a dancefloor – she got her start in music throwing legendary parties in Banff. Quickly moving her talents behind the decks, Applebaum honed a sound that is one part funk, one part groove, one part bass, and one hundred percent entertaining. 

Applebaum is a staple on Calgary lineups, where she is based. A regular name on Cirque de la Nuit events, Pride parties, and BassBus shows, Applebaum can be found playing shows nearly every weekend. Summer 2020 will see her on the Western Canadian festival circuit, as well as continuing her summertime residency, Hip-Hop Heat, which she curates and plays with local legends Jams, Mittz, and Big Worm. 

As a legacy member of Girls on Decks and an employee of AEMCON, Applebaum’s roots in music are deep. Her name says it all, paying homage to the classics like Tribe, but with a unique twist. When you see Applebaum, get ready to laugh, sing, party, and, most importantly, to dance!

Mason Jay, a self-proclaimed audio addict, crafts upbeat and eclectic sets that will transport you to the dancefloor, drawing from all frequencies of house music. He spent two years living in London, England, where he joined Music Box Radio as a resident and launched his show ‘The Landing Pad’. In London, he blossomed as a DJ, playing for crowds across the capital, including a residency with Disco Jukebox in East London.

Mason spends considerable time as a promoter as the man behind Stay Vigilant Productions (SVP). SVP (founded by him) is a local production company intent on elevating Calgary’s electronic music scene by creating opportunities for new artists, and providing unique pop-up events for the community. He has brought headline DJs to Calgary from across the country including Sydney Blu, Joses, and Hatiras. 

Career highlights include opening for Crusy, Hatiras, Esette, and Paul Brandt. Mason has also been the Official DJ of the Calgary Canucks since 2024.

Over 25 years ago amidst Calgary's vibrant rave culture, J9's musical journey began, igniting a passion that continues to shape her purpose in life. In 2011, she founded J9Productions, initially captivating audiences with her unique brand of burlesque shows and live music events before transitioning to organizing House music events in 2016, notably the renowned HUMPDay HOUSE Party. 

Driven by a profound connection to music, J9 embarked on her DJing journey in 2022. Since her debut, J9 has graced the decks at prestigious events such as Wicked Woods Music Festival, and has had the honour of opening for esteemed artists like Megan Hamilton, Average Citizens & Father Funk. 

Known for her sensual, groove-filled sets, J9’s preferred sound blends House and Drum & Bass—but she loves playing anything that makes her feel good. From organic house to indie dance and downtempo, her broad musical palette brings depth and energy to every set. She thrives on the coveted opening set time slot, igniting the dance floor and creating the vibe to ensure an unforgettable experience.  

Through the music, J9 aims to evoke profound emotions, foster connection, spread love, positivity, and bring people together, one frequency at a time.

FunkinRight is all about fun and funky party music, and having a good time. 

This Canadian funk slangin producer has released over 23 tracks since 2019, with support from labels like Breakbeat Paradise, Render Recordings, Twists of Time, Wildfire Recordings, and B Nasty Beats. His genre jumping DJ style paved the way for multi-genre production, where he continues to push the limits and make beats outside the box.

FunkinRight’s musical CV is as long as it is funky, and he’s shared the stage many of his own inspirations including Askillz, Featurecast, Father Funk, JFB, Megan Hamilton, Phibes, Pineo & Loeb, The Sponges, WBBL, X-Ray Ted, and more. FunkinRight has also been blessed with funky sets at many amazing events including Burn in the Forest, Curiosity, FozzyFest, Freezerburn, Restart, Wicked Woods, Vibrant, and many more. 

It’s about living right, loving right, and treating people right. It’s about doing what you love, with the people you love to do it with, and always (always) staying funky.
