Pulling from the archives this week: this snippet was taken from Communion in Minneapolis on 7/6/25 warming up the patio for WWW & Christian James. This was ~30 days after me snapping my collar bone in Chicago. I was originally supposed to spin alongside fellow excavator Jeffrey but the timing didn't work out so I took it solo... and kept it even after I was down an arm. Happy with how it transpired all things considered. I probably could've stuck to the USB but I mean, what fun would that've been? ;)

The Subterranean Jazz Project plays jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, along with funk, blues, pop and anything else we think will bring joy to our audience.

Together for five years, the band is made up of alto and tenor saxophones, clarinet, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums.

The friends who make up SJP delight in bringing some
of Americas favorite music, both new and old, to audiences throughout the Madison area.

Music is miles beyond a hobby for AZZA: it’s his very lifeblood. 

Decades of musical obsession always finds him listening, dancing, on aux duty, playing jazz piano, producing, digging in dusty crates, reading & discussing music journalism, and always burrowing down the next musical rabbit-hole for the rush of uncovering that next great track.  

Through a lifetime of quasi-religious concert attendance, passionate study of the dancefloor, and ten years of spinning himself, he has fostered a unique love and appreciation for the magic only a discoball and a DJ can provide – love he feels compelled to share with any who will listen. 

In every endeavor, AZZA seeks to create a story with others by journeying through the deep, dreamy, spiritual, hypnotic, and groovy with friends of twenty years and twenty seconds alike.
