DJ Basilisk rewinds the tape to profile the shifting sound of psychedelic trance on the cusp of the new millennium with TRANSMISSIONS FROM MEROPIS. Featuring 32 tracks released between 1998 and 2001, this embryonic cocktail captures a global movement in flux, as technological change ushered in a new era of experimentation, and the golden age of Goa trance came to a catastrophic end. Many strands of modern psytrance that would emerge from these tumultuous times can be heard here: the gritty rawness and anarchic dissonance of the emerging minimal wave; early hints of what would evolve into darkpsy and forest music; ecstatic, fist-pumping precursors to full-on psytrance; more stripped-down progressive beats with ample groove and swagger; and an enchanting trace of what would become psy dub. A mix I made march 2021 after a day in the pub. Came home a bit tipsy and started playing around  with some unreleased tracks.
Totally forgot about it until it showed up on my phone while i was out on a delivery in my truck 



Bubble Sunday

Another unreleased gem sees daylight. In 2013-2014, I had a couple of remixes made of one of my classic tracks, Mindstream Continuum that was released on ‪Suntrip Records‬ compilation "Shaltu" and another slightly different version on my first CD album "Stardust Chronicles" in late 2013.

This one is a different take on the track by Belgian artist Jagoa aka Spawn of the Forgotten, that was almost lost in time. It's a lovely long track that gives me heavy Doof vibes from his "Let's turn on" -album from 1990's. At some point I wanted to mix this track down again from stems to give it the love it deserves but the original files have been lost in time and this is the only version available. 

Now is the time for it to see the light of day!

I havent recorded in a few months because ive been getting into music production (There is so much to learn), so while looking for some inspiration i decided its time to record a new mix. I have a tendency to record a mix of the tracks that i hear the most at that time, So as you can see lately ive been listening to a lot of Astral Projection, Hallucinogen, Shakta and Etnica (basically like any other month haha). I made sure to use a few less known tracks as well. the most important track for me in this mix was the second one by Roy Sason and Eylon Haliva which is new and an incredible masterpiece, truly amazing to see tracks like these being made in 2020. I also made sure to start at a lower Bpm because my latest mixes started mostly at about 145Bpm.

Basilisk is a veteran multi-genre DJ, co-founder of the psychedelic techno label @Techgnosis-Records alongside @benramamusic, founder of the iconic @Ektoplazm free music portal and label group (including Ektoplazm, Drumlore, and Omnitropic), lossless audio enthusiast, and dedicated archivist and electronic music curator. Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, he is now based in Taipei, Taiwan.

Psytrance, techno, electro, house, trance, acid, breaks, bass, IDM, ambient—you name it, I probably spin it. My mixes fluidly combine different genres into harmonic journeys that defy convention.
