Sunday Pwnage part 2:
5-6:30am at Feather River Campout. Pwny just slayed the crowd with an amazing hands-in-the-air set, the kind where you can barely concentrate cos everyone wants a hug and high five. I was teased about how to follow That set; I smirked and did this. I'm not sure who won the bets on the better set, I love this set, but I think she still won. (Def check out Predawn Moon, Sunday Pwnage part 1, on her page!)

We couldn't stick around for the debate though, we had to bounce down the river to finish up the 6 hour sunday journey 9am-Noon at Sanctuary 6 for champagne and bacon hour with verdant shady sunshine vibes, Champs and Bacon - Sunday Pwnage part 3. Stuck the landing too, I think ;)

Venus Dawn - Sunday Pwnage 2 - Dao Live at FRC 2018

Been spinning a long time, 29 years, more than half my life.  Have spun nearly every genre, have vacillated between taking this very seriously and not giving a fuck.  It is more than a hobby, this is integrating an artistic conversation spanning the globe and it is my passion.  This particular conversation we’ve been having in the Deep (house/tech/breaks) arena is particularly dope, and I’m excited to be a participant by spinning & producing that which moves my ass and soul, and raises my hands to the sky.  If asked, I'll say I spin Swamp music... humid Deep House/Breaks/Tech with vivid palates. &#13;

Mixing is my zen-state.  It isn’t an intentional act as much as it is communion with sound, with the muse.  I don’t plan Sets.  My mantra is the ‘right song at the right time’, and you’re never going to answer that question until you’re in the moment.  I kicked the vinyl habit in ‘05, but I still use CDJs..  You can hear the excitement in a live-mixed set, when there’s no net, when the DJ is a sneeze away from a trainwreck.  I like a slippery beat or two, to flash your cards, to show this is real, this is Now, and we’re deep in it, together.  I also only like to mix deep, 3 mins or so.  It isn’t deep music unless you mix it deep, over your head in sounds, dancing with them as if Tai Chi, rolling them into another as if an Akido master.  The tracks dictate how they want to be mixed, the moment dictates what energy wants to emerge next; a DJ isn’t there to be intentional, we’re supposed to be receptive.  You can hear the difference.&#13;

An avid music lover all my life, I began to start collecting tracks for play and pleasure in about 2006. Influenced by everything from bootyshaking sets to deep dark melodic scratch your brain journeys from SF/OAK and other West Coast DJs and a handful of venues I would go to, I decided it was time to start crafting some of my own sets that make people FEEL.

It's the music’s ability to break down barriers, social and otherwise, that continues to drive me to try new things. Wanting to help do this very thing led me on a search for my own equipment. Scoring a basic mixing setup from a local pawn shop, I've been collecting as much music to play with as I can. It's time for me to contribute to breaking barriers and walls that other DJs had, even unknowingly, helped me to overcome. So let go, enjoy the ride and relax with me :)
