There are certain nights that, when I DJ, I have absolutely no idea what I am going to spin. After all,  I approach the decks, armed to my ears with CD binders filled with all kids of genres, influences, styles, tempos and sonic weaponry; tools (if you will) for the dismantling and reassembling of the “self” through the kind of salvation that only music and dance provides. 

The following mix is a kind of "old-school-vs-nu-school"  Indo/Arab-centric vibes, that sources the sounds of a few music producing friends: Gaudi, Pierre Jean of Masaladosa, Govinda, Drum Spyder, MC Yogi, Amani of Desert Dwellers. This mix assembles itself as a spontaneously gentle combustion of tasty, unassuming groove over  the next 1:08:14

This is the first part from a conscious dance series that I am co-hosting in Calgary, AB. We are gathering each month for the next five months to explore an element through ceremony and dance. In this episode we explore earth.

We are earth. Our flesh is inseparable from the arid deserts, marshy swamps, fierce mountains, rolling hills, and everywhere in between. This is our home. For this dance, we will honour ourselves and each other by honouring our beautiful home. We will dance and pray together in the sounds of nature. We will come alive through natural rhythms and earthly tones.
