A set lovingly prepared for Earth Frequency Festival 2021 

Back to the scene of the panic attack, another year older, bolder, wiser and yet still aware I’m barely scratching the surface of what’s possible in this space

Wholeheartedly welcomed the change of season and loved the winter fashunnnn expressions roving around like free range art on display to the world

What an honour and privilege it is to be able to gather, to dance, to play, to smile, to bypass small talk entirely and get straight to the good stuff! The banter flows effortlessly into philosophy pausing only for puns or taking off on tangents led by curiosity or passion 

We have evolved to be playful by nature, that is exactly how we learn best from childhood as we develop our cognition, motor skills and sense of the world around us but all the way into adulthood it’s how we bond with other humans, unwind and manage stress

To receive the benefits of play we need to be in a relaxed state and there is nothing I find more soul nourishing than being out amongst nature surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of others who heard the same calling

The evolution continues...as does the rain!

Opening night at Wonky Town was a vibe and a half, the space was a wonderland begging everyone to come play full to the brim with games, interactive installations, a cosy lamp lit lounge and all sorts of other shenanigans 

It was an honour and a privilege to play on a purpose built stage compliments of the festival and Fulcrum Designs in lieu of Sheila no longer being with us - May she forever rest in bass...

Also worth noting for full transparency and celebration of my musical journey that it was my first time performing live directly on the decks sans laptop and controller which was a whole new world in terms of convenience but all wrapped up in the kinda nerves I thought were behind me

Looking forward to continuing the learning process, experimenting with the weaving and manipulating of sound drawing inspiration from those in the know around me and as always with the highest level of gratitude and respect for the original creators

There is a lovely quote about art and how it is the way we choose to decorate space, with that considered then naturally music is how we can decorate time...This conjures up thoughts and visions of being some kind of metaphysical interior designer of sorts?!

It pops into my mind often as I think about curation for any given event or opportunity to share the music that I love, I think of the physical space, those who will likely seek it out and the kind of experience they might like to have depending on time or circumstance...

When given the honour to warm up the stage for Opiuo, Jordan Dennis and Mood Swing & Chevy Bass at The Princess Theatre last month I felt a lot of feelings! First there was excitement, pride and shock which was closely followed by fear, harsh self judgement and doubt all tainted by a solid dose of impostor syndrome.

But when I stepped outside of my mind for a minute I genuinely knew that I could do it, I had all I needed to set the tone and style the evening decorating both time and space thanks to the beautiful music that had already found it's way to me.

Now on the other side of the experience I am pretty damn proud and so so grateful for all the friends who made the extra effort support me in their own special way whether it was during the lead up, in the flesh on the night or the days and weeks that followed as I reflected on it all

.
I have since enjoyed so many rich conversations about the art of performance from those in the know farther along the path than I am now. It has provided me with comfort, perspective and hope for the future as I anticipate a greater sense of ease to eventually be possible for me on stage.

With change in the air and much anticipated wellness on the way it seemed like the right time to create a memento of this recent chapter of life... 

The music woven together in this homebrew is quite sentimental, the exact medicine I never knew I needed until it landed in my body at the right time and interestingly the right pace with most being a similar tempo and tone. 

Each of the tracks were recognised from within as a remedy long before I came to understand their meaning or relevance let alone marinade in their melodies. 

It is only now when I listen back that I come to appreciate the inner intelligence at work here and in turn start to rebuild some trust in my body and it’s ability to heal.

Becoming a regular stage warmer for the Mood Swing & Chevy Bass Block Parties has presented a good excuse to get out of the house and share some much loved tunes of a slightly funkier variety alongside dear friends and some incredibly talented international acts...

For this instalment we gathered at The Triffid and the brief was to begin the moment doors opened and warm up the space by toeing the line of a vibe that begs the question "Should we get a drink?" or "Should we have a dance?" then handover to the rest of the funky little relay team assembling for the eve. Shout out to Jamie Forest, Father Funk, Clitoverse, Djonn, Wilma, Sharif D, The Freshmaker, The Sponges and of course MSCB.

I count my blessings to have these opportunities to express myself and connect with others through a mutual love of the music that we can't help but move and groove to, the kind that makes us feel, helps us heal and above all else connect with ourselves via the rhythms and melodies that feel at home in our bodies for reasons far beyond our understanding.
