Booga ”Zuendspule“ (Snippet)

Panthera Krause's music-making habits teeter on the precipice between moody and outright fun house; a technique which has done wonders for the Leipzig melody maker since his early years. The mould was set with his weekly podcasts and 2012's "Cassandra" on local imprint O*RS. Then further solidified via the Yorikke EP in 2013 - a three-track mid-summer trip on Riotvan - and the delights of his Rules EP (2014) on Lobster Theremin and the Laika EP (2014) on Riotvan.

The Uncanny Valley connection was established during the back end of last year. The pumping “Coochie” formed part of the Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole release and was quite the foretaste. And here we arrive at "Umami"; a lesson in colourful and let-loose four-to-the-floor which first saw light on our recent Dresden show with the UV fam.

Last June, Berlin based reissue label Notes On A Journey released a celebrated re-issue of an album which in its original release in 1980 attracted scarcely or almost no attention at all: „Confidence In The Future“ (NOAJ001) by obscure, short-lived Berlin Folk Jazz project Spinning Motion – a spontaneously assembled Jazz trained group around Manfred Tappert and Achim Hirsch recorded this forgotten gem but disbanded soon after again. Looking back on a bit more consistent past, another Berlin institution, Jazzanova established their worldwide success (f.e. with their early, groundbreaking remixes) almost twenty years ago and now demonstrate with their absolutely emotive and laid-back rework of “Naze” that as you get older you're not only getting wiser but also continue to stay musically relevant and contemporary. As Jazzanova is concentrating on own material at the moment, we are really happy for the incident that Notes On A Journey found the original multi-track tapes of the recordings. That’s the only reason why Jazzanova took their time to go into the studio and did this remix of Naze. On the digital release you'll find three different versions of this outstanding remix.

Another song off the warm-heartly recommendable Spinning Motion album, “Prisoner Of Life”, gets a treatment by two founders of Notes On A Journey and operators themselves. With Stefan Leisering in the game, being one of Jazzanova's musical mastermind, this release's staff intersects somehow or other anyway. Oliver Glage, the other one thirds of Notes On A Journey and Oliver Haertel, the sound man behind several Sonar Kollektiv productions, are in different capacities part of the Sonar Kollektiv family as well. Their rework of “Prisoner Of Life” relocates the listeners back to the original's year of origin, offers though, with Leisering's cunning drum programming (plus added synths and choirs) somewhat like an alternate version. Therewith this tune will not only be catapulted into modern times but hopefully soon into the Heavy Rotation of any respectable radio station around the globe.

The debut release from the Dama Dama label comes from co-founder Pedestrian in the shape of "Circadian Rhythms” - a 4 track concept EP. Each track represents a different time of day throughout the 24 hour cycle, with the 12” divided into a “Day Side” and a “Night Side”.

The day begins with “Simple Minded At Dawn”, a sleepy, beat-less meditation constructed of heavily processed electric pianos and cellos, and then moves onto the hazy summer’s afternoon cut of “Deep In Daylight”. Flip it over and day turns into night where things start to get a little deeper and darker with “Torn Blue”, a peak time dance floor number which steadily builds in intensity and crescendos into “JNT". A 4am 2-step roller, the EP’s closing number is a collaboration with label co-founders Maribou State which works its way into a climax of looping African vocals, synths and strings before breaking into a blissful wind down where “Simple Minded At Dawn” starts fading back in, emphasising the cyclical nature of night turning into day and prompting the listener to flip it once again and repeat the process.

You receive an unpredictable, instantly hip-loosening, expertly, but oh-so-casual performed set, in which you want to dance for evermore. A light-footed ride over the keyboard of contemporary and universal sounds from organic-melodic house and disco through to soulful techno. You have to know who operates the controller here. You’re dancing towards the DJ booth. Who do you behold behind the turntables? Filburt. His sets between turntablism and beat match expertise, mindful of his flowing together in the great Floor formula style horizons are no more regional phenomenon. As 50 % of Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt [@ggm-filburt] and also as a producer / DJ on his own Filburts effective radius has expanded into the national and international in the recent years. As the former manager of the renowned Leipzig Vinyl Dealers Freezone Records and owner of the label @O-RS was or is he active at all possible switching points of the scene. The experience behind the decks and in the periphery trains his sense for the perfect club track for years. Several formulations with this feeling for House and everything adjacent have already appeared on labels like Permanent Vacation, Liebe*Detail, Mirau, Dirt Crew, Compost and Riotvan.
