On Saturday, April 30th, 2022, I was honored to be on the opening roster to perform a B2B (back-to-back) set, paired up with my long-time Seattle DJ friend, the lovely Janice Chae, a.k.a. J-NOTE, for none other than one of the true Godfathers of the Trance scene, legendary UK Trance artist and record producer, PAUL OAKENFOLD. Truth be known, it was Paul Oakenfold that originally sent me spiraling into the world of Trance, from which I never have emerged again, in 1998 when I first heard his album “Tranceport” at Disney World in Orlando, FL. That album blew my mind and it sent me into this mad frenzy to find more and more of this music called Trance, which led me down the rabbit hole to other artists over the next few years like Tiesto, Mirco de Govia, Ronski Speed, Kyau & Albert, NuNRG, Andy Moor, Mike Shiver, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Gate, and eventually Above & Beyond, ANJUNA, etc, but that whole journey for me had a definitive starting point, “the Big Bang” as it were, and for me that was Paul Oakenfold… So, this show really felt like a going the full circle for me, and was just a really amazing night. It was also my good friend Eric Weber’s birthday, and he DJ’d an amazing all-classics Birthday set right after us, so it was truly a night to remember, and the club was totally packed with Trance fans and had an incredible energy to play to. Janice and I didn’t rehearse this set, we just set rough guidelines for general BPM and feel, and to try to have tracks that were easier to mix into, but what you hear on this set is what we figured out organically as we played through our 70-minute time slot. It was a total blast, and getting to “open for” and actually meet Paul Oakenfold was a definite bucket list item checked off for me. What a night!! GOTEK & J-NOTE opening B2B set for PAUL OAKENFOLD, Ora, Seattle, Sat, April 30th, 2022

Seattle's Mark McCarthy a.k.a. DJ Gotek emerged out of the exploding Electronic Dance Music scene in the Pacific Northwest over the past decade+, and has held residencies at some of the hottest DJ clubs in the NW such as The Underground, Club Contour, and Foundation Nightclub in Seattle and Whiskey Bar in Portland, and also has played at an ever growing list of clubs and venues on the west coast. Specifically noted for his euphoric, uplifting, and melodic Progressive and Trance sets over the past decade, DJ Gotek has found himself being invited to open for some of the world's most prolific and iconic Trance and Progressive DJ/Producers, artists such as Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Cosmic Gate, Sunny Lax, Genix, Solarstone, 4 Strings, Aly & Fila, ARTY, Ilan Bluestone, Super8 & Tab, Omnia, Ronski Speed, Orjan Nilson, Roger Shah, Chicane, The Blizzard, Lange, Daniel Kandi, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Gareth Emery, MYON, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Richard Durand, Bobina, Stoneface & Terminal, John OO Fleming, Simon Doty, Dezza, the list grows ever longer.. Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)

J-Note has been in the Seattle music scene since 2001 and has loved being on the decks starting in 2007. She has played many Seattle iconic venues to showcase her passion for music. The musical journey of the sounds presented in her sets shows and has given her the opportunity to play with some of the best local and international DJs.
J-Note shares her love for many House genres such as Progressive, Deep, Melodic, and Organic. Inspired by her favorite labels Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep, Colorize, Enhanced, Defected, and more. We cannot wait to see more of this female Seattleite throw down her bittersweet beats!
