Monoverse - Learning To Love (Deep Fog Remix) [As You Are]

On Sunday, December 31st, I was thrilled to have been invited back down to Portland, Oregon, to play a New Year’s Eve 2024 Trance Party at Opaline Nightclub, for the 2nd year in a row!! Opaline is a neat, kind of intimate little club in the heart of the NW “Old Town” district of downtown Portland, and it was a total blast to be down there again spinning some Trance with my old DJ buddies from yesteryear; Zoxy, Scott Vorel, and Tim Clang, guys from the old “Mission Trance” days when I had a once-a-month residency at the “Whiskey Bar” in Portland for a few years, over a decade ago.. Whiskey Bar has sadly since closed down during COVID, and ironically, I had to walk by the boarded up building where it once was, to get to Opaline, I could still feel the energy and almost hear the Oonz Oonz Oonz coming out of there like the old days, a lot of fond memories and ghosts from a better time emanating from within. As soon as I found out that my set time was from 12am to 1am, starting right after the New Year’s Champaign Toast at Midnight, I immediately knew that I needed to kick off the set with the CLASSIC “Moonlight Party” by Fonzerelli, to get a bit of that early nostalgic Tiesto “In Search of Sunrise” vibe, and to set up the total party mood to keep people dancing and on the dance floor. From there, I just decided to keep it all Classics, and played a smattering of some of my very favorite tracks, ranging from 2005 to 2016, but mostly centered around the early 20-teens, to align with that magical era when I was playing the Mission Trance at the Whiskey Bar in Portland and Foundation in Seattle, when there were SOOOOO many incredible Progressive Trance tracks coming out back then. Anyway, the DJ coming on after me took some extra time coming up to the DJ booth so I got to sneak in a few extra tracks past my 1-hour time slot, and also I ratcheted it up to some Uplifting Trance at the end, which was fun. Also, this set was RECORDED LIVE directly from the mixer at the club, and unfortunately the first track got cut off on the recording a bit.. Oh well.. But the rest turned out pretty great and I hope you enjoy this collection of some of my very favorite tracks and relive that New Year’s Eve with me. Cheers, and happy 2024 everyone!! ~ Mark, a.k.a. Dance Love Hub - 10 Year Residency Party Teaser (Part 4 - Warm Up)

On Sunday, January 21st, I recorded this, the next iteration of my Progressive House demo series, which I do every once in a while, when I feel like mixing but I don’t have any good shows coming up that match the music, yet meanwhile the flow of incoming tracks is just too great to ignore.. So, Viola!! Demo Set time haha.. Since I got tired of trying to think of clever new names for each demo set, I’ve just been calling them the month they were recorded in, followed by “Prog”, like “October Prog” late last year. But moving forward, I am going to call them a very generic “Prog Sessions”, because that’s what they are, even though everyone else also uses that same boring naming convention already haha. So, welcome to the January edition of Prog Sessions, the first of the New Year. And truth be known, I’ve been working on this one for an embarrassingly long time, and have actually recorded it several times before last Sunday, but they were never quite the right mix of tracks. I always have a rule for these things, and that is, would I want to listen to it multiple times myself. If the answer is yes, then I have a keeper (usually).. But if the answer is no, I keep on working on it. I figure that I need to make these things for myself first, make something that I love deeply, and hopefully if I get it right, other people might get some joy out of it too. So, with this one, I really now like the blend of Progressive House and Progressive Trance, some more deep and moody, and some more funky and Housey, with the common denominator of emotional and melodic undercurrent throughout. I almost think this one has a theme of “Love Sickness”, with the happy epiphanies of joy, followed by the moments of sadness or depression of longing for someone that maybe doesn’t notice you or like you back in the same way, but I’ll let you be the judge haha. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
