I've been spinning progressive house since the early 2000's, and over the years I have recorded some demo sets along the way. I thought I would compile them all in one place to make them easy(er) to find for people that like this type of more mellow, chillax, emotion-invoking music. More recently I started the "Prog Sessions" series, and I'll continue to add those here as they come out. Hope you enjoy!!

Gotek's Progressive House Demo Sets - Melodic and Emotive Sounds.. ^_^

So, I’ve hinted that this mix was coming on my Gotek FB page etc, but I’ve noticed that I’ve been gravitating to my collection of much older, “vintage”, Uplifting Trance tracks (early-to-mid 2000’s, before 2010), many of which I originally purchased on vinyl, some of which were only ever released in vinyl format, back in the day when I would hear something on DI.FM and frantically search the internet for it, when you often times would be paying $15-$30 bucks for a “white label” piece of vinyl to be shipped to you from Europe somewhere, long before the convenience of the Internet and paying $2.50 for immediate gratification to download a lossless file. Back in the days when Trance was still forming, when the tracks were 8-9 minutes long and sounded rawer and more primitive, but still some of the most spine-tingly stuff I have ever heard. Well, a couple of weekends ago I decided to record a classics mix on the CDJ's to listen to later from Dropbox (something I do once in a while for music to listen to in the backyard while I was BBQ’ing, etc). So I went to my music collection and sorted by date, and was frankly surprised how many MP3’s I had that had no date or other metadata because they were so old, so I compiled a list of tracks I hadn’t heard in many years, and this is what I ended up with. Truth be known, I did go back and repurchase many of these tracks in AIFF (lossless) format from Beatport, because some of those ancient MP3’s just didn’t have the sound quality I needed, but there still were several MP3’s used to mix this set from tracks that weren’t available to re-buy as lossless files anywhere online. This mix has been professionally sound-leveled, and preserved in the original WAV format that I recorded it in,  for that added punch of sound quality on those extra old files, but I also sort of don't mind the MP3's for the extra emphasis on that "vintage" (slightly crappy) sound quality anyway haha. For me, this mix really brought back a lot of fond memories from a couple decades ago, when Uplifting Trance was much newer and pure, still just coalescing and finding it's place, and the feelings it conjures up are pure magic. I called this one “White Label”, and plan to have a vintage Trance series of the same now. I hope you feel the same way as I do when you hear it, enjoy!! -Mark a.k.a. Scorchin' Radio 140 - Dino Martin

On Friday, March 24th, I was super excited and honored to not only be opening for Irish Trance legend and pioneer, JOHN O’CALLAHAN, but also to be back behind the decks doing a B2B set with one of my oldest and dearest Trance DJ buddies, the promoter that offered my very first gig and chance to open for a world-class Trance headliner, (The BLIZZARD, at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, 11 years ago in 2012!!) which made everything else after that possible, for which I will eternally owe him my endless gratitude for making my DJ dreams come true, my dear Serbian buddy, Zoran, better known as ZOXY. What a night, that’s all I can say. The club was packed for John O’Callahan, and it was packed early so even us opener DJ’s had a packed dance floor to play to, and it was so much fun. It is now just a blur of laughing and high-fiving and hugs and a bunch of smiling people with their hands in the air, which is about as good as it gets. Anyway, B2B sets are always fun, and also challenging to try to figure out how to mix in the next track on an unrehearsed set. Zoxy + Gotek B2B opening set for John O’Callahan, Ora, Seattle, Fri, Mar 24th, 2023

On Friday, May 19th, I recorded a demo set of some dreamy, relaxing proggy stuff that I have been listening to and collecting for the past couple months, literally to upload to dropbox so I could listen to it in the backyard BBQ’ing on a beautiful, early summer evening haha, the night before the Rinaly show at Ora, which was last Saturday (AND, a totally awesome time!!! My set should also be uploaded sometime soon). I actually did try to record this once before several weekends before that but I didn’t like a few things about it and cut the recording off midway through, but this time it turned out pretty cool, so I thought I would share. Hey guys! Well, I’ve been working in the background on this next iteration of the “White Label” Classic Trance series, number 5, for the past month or so, and every time I record another one of these I worry whether I’ll have enough good material that will continue to motivate me to keep mixing these, and once again I re-reminded myself that there’s no shortage of amazing tracks that were produced pre 2010-ish, which is where I wanted to draw the line to keep this more about “classic” and “yesteryear” theme for the series. In fact, out of the 15 tracks on this mix I had to narrow that down from about 60 tracks that I still have left in the hopper from my original scan through my collection of the older stuff. Really happy with the way this one turned out, and I re-reminded myself about some of the hidden gems that I’ve totally forgotten about, like the Photon Project Remix of Andain’s “Beautiful Things”, that’s from 2003!!! I wouldn’t have been surprised if that was a brand new release, what an incredible remix of that track and from TWENTY years ago, and most people probably never even heard it. I also got to mix up a “dream team” list of some of my all-time FAVE vintage instrumental Uplifting Trance tracks, all back-to-back, like “Desert Eagle, “Northern Lights”, “Chime”, and “Aurora”, all on one mix, it’s almost TOO much Trance goodness in one mix, but I did it anyway.. I hope you’ll forgive me haha. I almost fainted from the adrenaline rush while playing those tracks together, such incredible memories and amazingly spine-tingly tracks, not to mention so many others, “Velvet Morning”, “Hold On To Me”, “Bass Society”, “Air for Life”, and I’ll never forget hearing Paul Oakenfold playing “Nice Guys Finish Last” but at a much faster speed, and was amazed that it was actually an amazing Trance track when played faster… And all the way from 1999, the iconic Fragma, and of course, “Gamemaster”, with the timeless famale vocal that helps me so vividly imagine our beautiful planet Earth a million years ago, so pure and untainted by mankind, so much awesomeness… Anyway, I’ll shut up an let you listen, and BTW, I will be opening for one of the artists on this mix, JOHN ASKEW, in July, so really looking forward to that one, definitely a bucket-lister for me haha. Sunset Sessions Radio September 2023 DIFM

Hey guys, welcome to the next iteration of Prog Sessions, April 2024 edition!! This one sort of happened by accident; I’d been working on my set for Solarstone and I was going through all of my recently purchased music, and for tracks that I thought were too mellow for the Solarstone show I was throwing them into a folder I just called “April Prog”, but I noticed later that I actually had a ton of great tracks in there so made a note to go back and see if I had the right elements to get a playlist to work.. I wanted to record a set to listen to for Saturday night BBQ, something I frequently do haha. So, I did, on that Saturday the 13th, this is what happened, and after I listened to it I knew I had a keeper. Probably “TMI” haha, but that’s literally how this set came to be, whereas many of my previous "Prog Sessions" sets took me numerous tries and probably weeks of trial and error to get to a version that I thought was good enough for streaming, so this was a pleasant surprise!! :D Anyway, without going into too much additional boring detail, I welcome you to Prog Sessions, April Edition, and hope that you enjoy the mix as much as I did recording it!! PS: the photo is one I took on my vacation to Germany back in October of 2022 for Oktoberfest; that was from a morning walk through a huge square in Stuttgart called Schlossplatz, and it has these two enormous and beautiful fountains, which were built in honor of King William of Württemberg, in 1863. The two landmarks are popular sights for tourists and visitors to Königstraße in Stuttgart, and I’ve always loved seeing them whenever I am there. I thought that photo would be perfect for this mix. “Prog Sessions, April 2024 Edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live April 13th, 2024

Hey Guys, getting the next iteration of my Progressive House series, “Prog Sessions” in just under the wire for May here haha. I was figuring that I would call it “June Edition”, but since the cover art is an awesome photo, taken over my house by my neighbor across the street, of the Aurora Borealis caused by the solar storm that so many people saw around the world during the month of May, and also in honor of my Dad’s 87th Birthday, which is TODAY (May 30th), I am sticking with “May Edition” for this one!! I have been struggling with time lately, as my “real job” has been super busy, so I haven’t had much time to work on DJ stuff lately. But I (of course) keep listening and constantly buying new music, and I had this massive stockpile of awesome new tunes building up, so much so that I really had a severe case of writer’s block with this one and had no idea where to start. So last weekend I spent hours downloading and arranging tracks and got it narrowed down to about 50 “keeper” tracks, then managed to narrow it down to the lucky 13 on this set, and recorded it on Monday, memorial Day Holiday.. I just recorded this the one time and that was it; all the tracks just worked together beautifully, which is rare for a one-time recording session!! Lastly, I usually try to put 14 tracks on these Prog demos, but Warung’s EPIC track, “All We Have Is Time”, seemed like such a great place to end it, and also loved the irony because all I DON'T have is time these days haha, so I stopped the recording there. Hey guys, hope you’ve been having an awesome summer!! Hard to believe that it is nearly September, when summer starts winding down, kids go back to school, and the beginnings of Fall start showing up here and there, my favorite season. Well, as you can tell, it’s been a very slow summer, DJ-gig-wise, which has kind of worked out for me because I have been buried at my job all summer long, but I also really miss playing in the clubs, and am hopeful the Seattle Trance scene will start picking up again with more shows in the Fall. Meanwhile, I never stop listening to, buying, and collecting music, so shows or no shows, I’ll always continue recording my live demo mixes. And, speaking of, I just recorded the latest in my “Prog Sessions” progressive house demo series, last weekend. I had a lot of amazing music to choose from, and had to spend a lot of time whittling it down to just 15 tracks, but I was really happy the way this one turned out, with brand new releases from some of my go-to progressive artists including Genix, ANUQRAM, PROFF, LTN, Paul Arcane, and I was SOOOO happy the insanely awesome Yeadon remix of Genix’s “Lights, Sound, Camera, Action” released the very day I recorded the mix!!! I had been checking Beatport every day since I first heard it, and it’s definitely my Fave track on the mix. Anyway, I’ve found that to keep the quality level to my very high standards for these things, my goal is always to have a set where I never feel like fast forwarding through any tracks, therefore I usually won’t have enough A-list tracks stored up to record one every month (I am quite picky haha), but I will try to get one out every other month. And meanwhile, I’ll continue working on my “Mission Trance” uplifting trance demo mixes as well, with about the same bi-monthly cadence haha. As usual, hope you enjoy!! Cheers! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

“Prog Sessions, August 2024 Edition” a Progressive demo mix, recorded live Aug 17th, 2024

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a Happy New Year so far! So, as I mentioned on my Facebook page, I tried to get this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series finished in December. I think I recorded it at least four times, and each time I felt it wasn’t quite ready for uploading here and released into the wild, it could be better. So I kept whittling away at it, and now it’s practically an entirely different mix than what I started with, but I am very happy with it. It might even be my favorite of the series so far haha. So (for me at least) the wait was worth it. Anyway, we are all our own wort critics I suppose, but I love every track on this mix, and love the journey through sound aspect of this mix, with a little something for everyone, some twists a turns through mostly instrumental melodic Progressive sounds, some more Housey, some a little more moody and ambient Deep Progressive “Guy J” kind of vibes, and even a dash of Progressive Trance. The highlight of this set is one of the only truly vocal tracks in the mix, the LTN remix of “Wait Forever” by Estiva. I first heard a bootleg of this track on YouTube probably a year ago and was so in love with this track, but it never released. Finally, I JUST found a radio edit of it, and had to use some looping and hot cues to make it work in this mix, but I just can’t get enough of this gorgeous track. Anyway, I hope you like this set as much as I enjoyed spinning it! Not sure when I’ll get my next one out, but I’ll do my best to keep them coming ASAP haha. Cheers! -Mark, a.k.a. Gotek

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a great summer so far! So, I finally got this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series recorded over the 4th of July weekend! You may have noticed that I have taken a bit of a break on the DJ front this year, and that is primarily because of my actual career “day job” has finally gotten to the point where the workload and stress of my job kind of kills my energy level to work on music during the weekends. Plus, sadly, the Trance/Progressive scene in Seattle is going through a bit of a dry spell, not as many local Trance shows or opportunities for me to be an opener DJ for a headliner, etc. especially since several of my old and beloved “stomping-grounds” NW DJ clubs from yesteryear closed down during COVID.. However, rest assured, the passion will never truly die, and regardless of whether I am posting sets or not, I am still constantly listening, researching, and collecting new music for future DJ sets, so you know I’ll always be back eventually, like a moth to the flame haha. The good news is that, aside from getting out a new Prog Sessions set for your listening pleasure, I do have an awesome show coming up in a couple weeks at ORA Nightclub, where I will be opening for world-famous and beloved Italian DJ/Producer, Giuseppe Ottaviani, on Friday, July 25th!! Can’t WAIT for that one!! So, lastly, I really liked the way this one turned out, it was a one-time-through dry run that I recorded and thought, “that’s it”, that’s exactly what I wanted, that hypnotic journey through sound, beautiful Progressive House ramping into more ethereal Progressive Trance, my happy place.. The photo is one I took on a vacation that I took to Rome about 10 years ago, the beautiful Basilica of St. John Lateran, the oldest public church in Rome, consecrated in 324 CE by Pope Sylvester I. I always loved the way the sunlight played through the clouds in the backdrop, very magical looking. So, this was in honor of Giuseppe Ottaviani, our Roman Trance Champion, coming to Seattle this month!! =)

Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
