Ben Lamdin (aka Nostalgia 77) has a nice mix of tunes from some of the prominent artists in the underground London jazz scene; it’s a timely mix with our Jazz Issue on the horizon. Relics features tracks from his own label, Impossible Ark, as well as Babel, Loop, Grundle, and Ninja Tune, providing an cross section of the sounds of contemporary jazz in London including a couple unreleased gems such as “Dandelions” by Kaz Simmons and “Elephants” by the Skeletons.

Magic In Threes - Who Tha Trillest

A tribute to the living legend Herbie Hancock! An adventure through some of the many styles in which Hancock created and ventured, from funk to solo piano, plus a couple snippets from interviews Hancock did recorded to vinyl. 

The piano is my favorite instrument, and this is the first in a series of Pullin from the Stacks tributes to some of my favorite pianists.

Was selecting these tracks as people went to the polls...was feeling a range of emotions and wanted to play tracks that felt serious, hopeful, powerful, and spoke to the need for urgent social change (not that I personally believe presidential elections impact much social change, but this election seems more of a moment than simply an election). Recorded the mix the next day, with votes still being counted, but results showing that no matter who wins, millions upon millions of white people in this country still support a fascist white nationalist even after four years of lies, violence and death. I am trying to still be hopeful but it is hard.
