Something I've been working on this week to help me through the rotten grey days outside. The vocal samples on this one come from a Jon Kennedy remix I was commissioned to do in the autumn (but was unable to complete due to bad health) so not sure about specifics of getting this one released but I'm sure I'll get it out there one way or another.

Rio born Joyce Moreno is one of the most famous names in Brazilian music. Her career has spanned more than 20 albums over 40 years and she continues to record and tour the world.

Aldeia de Ogum is one of her most well known songs. An anthem amongst DJs and dancers in the Acid Jazz days in London, regularly featuring at clubs such as Dingwalls.

Originally features on her sought after 'Feminina' LP from 1980, it also appears on the 'Essential' compilation that we released in 1997. This is the first time the track has been released on 7" however.
 

Rosinha was a highly acclaimed composer, arranger and guitarist who played with legends including Baden Powell, Sérgio Mendes and Sivuca. Sadly she passed away in 2004.

'Summertime' is taken from her 1975 RCA LP entitled 'Um Violão Em Primeiro Plano'. This is the first time the track has been released on 7".

Pullin from the Stacks - Episode 125 (Guest Set from Evolve-One)

There isn't much information about Djalma Dias but this misterious Brazillian singer born in Minas Geraes won in 1966 a famous TV music contest with the song ¨Bem bom no tom¨. 

His musical career carried on during the 60´s recording an album and some songs for famous Brazillian TV shows (soap operas). 

This edit comes from his track ¨Homem de Verdade¨ from the soap opera ¨Cavalo de Aço¨. I hope it helps you to discover a rare Brazillian artist that isn´t that famous but very talented...

Djalma Dias - Homem de Verdade (Barrio Latino Edit) {free download}

A few years back, my friend Otis did a mixtape called ‘a time for peace’. It’s an effortless mix of melodic & vocally driven music which became a source of some of my favourite records that I was yet to discover. There was never a tracklist for it, but over the years, have found them serendipitously in record shops and had a few joyful moments when finally the needle drops on one of the tracks from this mix!
The past week has given me an opportunity to reflect on some of the records that I return to constantly, can get lost in & consider something else for a while. I hope that perhaps someone out there might find something in here that opens their ears to something new, can get lost in and one day have that needle drop moment too! Thanks to everyone who put me onto these records in one way or another.
