After I finished recording this episode, I realized I'd played two records featuring Jorge Santana - one by his group Malo, and another with him as a guest with the Fania All-Stars. I looked him up and realized he had sadly passed away last spring. Rest in Power Jorge Santana! I hope everyone enjoys his guitar work on these tunes as well as the other tracks featured here.

BeatPete - Dope On Plastic - Everyday Scenario - Mix - 2012

Back in 2002, High C of the Dallas Texas based crate digging crew Rehash and DJ Raj Mahal of Soul Strut would swap mixes to feature on each other's site (Real Audio style).  The mixes usually contained loads of breaks and beats lifted from obscure 70s jazz & funk, with the occasional soundtrack and prog record thrown in.  I present you exhibit A.

Pullin from the Stacks - Episode 145

Was selecting these tracks as people went to the polls...was feeling a range of emotions and wanted to play tracks that felt serious, hopeful, powerful, and spoke to the need for urgent social change (not that I personally believe presidential elections impact much social change, but this election seems more of a moment than simply an election). Recorded the mix the next day, with votes still being counted, but results showing that no matter who wins, millions upon millions of white people in this country still support a fascist white nationalist even after four years of lies, violence and death. I am trying to still be hopeful but it is hard.
