" For the second year in a row, I had the honour of playing during the burn on the Warrior´s closing night... both times sharing the decks with a good friend, last year with Superpitcher as Pachanga Boys, this year with Barnt, who I convinced to come because his music fits so well to the place and situation… originally we wanted to have some back-to-back moments and some solo parts but we got so into it that we stuck together until the end for an almost twelve hour set… Such an experience… from the ritualesque drums to watching the man go up in flames until the sunrise, going through different peaks during the night with all this great people dancing between neon, lasers, fire and metal machines… it was so great to be part of this!! Thanks a lot to the Mayan Warrior crew, and thanks to all the warriors who were there…"

The dust blew in hard. Relentless. All Burn long. Destroyed pretty much everything. Beautiful it was.
There was true love, crushing loss, epiphany, change.

We were challenged, confronted, baffled, amused.

It threw us curveballs, softballs, thrashed our weary minds to the point of burnout.

In the middle of this Carnival of Chaos, were the twin techno towers of DISTRIKT, letting fly with winning smiles, throbbing bass, passionate hugs, rainbow tears and a sense of unity through the beauty of the beat.

We wore black. And we fucking rocked.


Simon Shackleton - Live At Distrikt, Burning Man 2015

It only took 4 months, but I have finally found the time to master and release my DISTRIKT Closing Party set from 2015.  It was another amazing year out on the playa, with some incredible highs and one very sad low.  It is interesting how every year eventful things seem to happen when you are out there in the desert, both good and bad.  And the fact that it is aways such a different experience every year, is really the beauty of it.  And for me, being away from day to day realities of work and stress helps me remember the importance of the relationships, community, art and music in my life.  That is why this closing set at DISTRIKT, 8 years in a row now, is the highlight of my year.  Looking out over a sea of smiling faces, not caring about anything but the music and the dance floor and that very moment in time.  I hope that this set takes you back to that place. The next musical offering from No.19 comes in the form of the single ‘Robot Heart’, a record almost destined to be a classic before its creation. The title comes from the infamous desert parties of the same name, that Robot Heart that burners chase through the desert on bikes deep into the Playa to partake in one of the world’s most enigmatic events. It ́s been praised by the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the best parties on earth and continues to top the list for djs lucky enough to play atop the legendary mobile soundsystem..

When Art Department ́s Jonny White received the call from Gio (George G Mueller) and Jason Swamy to write the first ever song for Robot Heart, it was not something he took lightly. In Jonny ̈s own words, "Robot Heart events at Burning Man are quite simply put, the best parties on the planet". Jonny enlisted his band partner Kenny Glasgow and sometimes DJ partner Shaun Reeves who were with him last year at Burning Man and who all experienced the Playa and Robot Heart for the very first time together to collaborate on the record. This was no small task, writing a record that would somehow have to translate the uncontainable energy that Robot Heart brings to the Playa each night and into the following afternoon at Burning Man.

"This truly is the stuff legends are made of. The guys have come up with something so amazing and powerful and I was honored to be asked to write the theme to such a beautiful concept that has touched so many including all of us. Having experienced playing on the bus 3 times now I had a good idea of what the song needed to sound like, although bringing that unbelievable atmosphere to a record seemed it might be impossible. Fortunately, having been touched so deeply by our experience there we didn ́t have much trouble putting ourselves in the right place to bring that vibe to the record. I think it really captures the essence of the party, the playa and the people that make it what it is ̈ (Jonny White).

When the record was finished Jonny immediately turned to Damian Lazarus who first asked Art Department to play with him on the bus 2 years ago to write the vocal. "The record needed a vocal... it was something that only someone who had been there and shared the same experience at Robot Heart would be capable of writing. While finishing the mix in LA I approached Damian to write and record the vocals for the song. He had a similar reaction to when we were asked to produce the song... honored and aware of the daunting task: that it would be a meaningful song for so many and had to live up to the actual party. He asked for a moment alone with a pen and some paper and came up with something absolutely perfect, without even hearing the record! I was shocked. We recorded one take and that was it". Musically ‘Robot Heart’ is an instant underground anthem, deep, pulsing electronic music that defies tags such as ‘house’ or ‘techno’. Lazarus’ intense and poignant vocals cut a channel through the rich and haunting production and the sound transports the listener straight to the heart of the flame lit desert floor. The original version is accompanied by an outstanding remix from BLUD who delivers a stripped back, dub mix that is perfectly balanced and deeply hypnotic.

This was my first Fusion Festival, popped my Fusion cherrrrry!!! 

I arrived just before my set , they took me to the stage in a car covered in graffiti that looked like it was taken out of the garbage dump, but blended in perfectly with the surroundings, and had an extra roar that gave it its character when the dreadlocked driver pushed on the gas. I found labels and trinkets in the car from many years ago.   Totally added to the experience. 

Arrived to Kerala Dust playing live, and thousands of people in front of me. 

What i loved about this stage, is that it was just about 10 inches off the ground , so still had that intimate connection to the crowd.  Thats something I struggle with sometimes at festivals, being high up on a stage and the distance between the crowd with those metal barriers disconnecting us. 

The actual set felt electric, the vibes were fresh, and they were high, so i fed on that fresh energy and we danced till sunset.  I even got a polaroid from a lady **if you know who you are ** say hi -----     that said hero on it.   

super touching experience, was soooo short and sweet. 

ill never forget my experience with Floyd Lavine, who i got to hang out with for an hour.  he came to my set at the beginnning and was total fan boy, totally unexpected.   afterwards i ran into him in the artist grounds, and we hung out danacing and talking with his gf and his friends somehow the conversation turned to politics, and it got heated.   not that i know anything about politics, :)
