Pseudonote presents: Lunar Sequence, an aquatically fresh 5-track EP from the late-night cosmonaut, JdB.

Over the course of three tracks, Josiah glides through moving bodies of submerged distortion and crumbling tones. Bright drums, choppy grooves, and a careful selection of damp and dubby synths all work together to create a vibration that is equally as movement inducing as it is reflective.

In addition to the originals, undercurrent and Zero Idea have both contributed a remix of Piscium.

First Friday of the month, kicking off Friday 5th April. Trace at Brunswick Cellars will see resident Chris Curtis joined by a rotation of guests playing right across the electronic spectrum. From Balearic through to House, Broken Beat and Techno. To be announced each month, the night will be a celebration of local talent. Musically forward looking but with one foot in the past. Deep grooves paired with hypnotic visuals on a tremendous sound system. April 5th will see Chris joined by Dave Stark, a tremendous local Dj and purveyor of Deep House 
 
Chris spent many years in Aberdeen, taking residency at the locally famed Techno night Metropolis with partner in crime Chris Knox. In addition to the regular residents nights, Chris took on warm up duties for the likes of Dave Clarke, Surgeon, Justin Robertson and Claude Young to name a few. Working through many bar residencies also provided a platform for a more laid back sound and deeper grooves.
 
Moving back to his hometown of Glasgow, Chris is currently one of the residents of the subSine Sessions and presents the monthly subSine Sessions show on Radio Buena Vida, also releasing music on the new local label Subplant Recordings under his Theta Waves moniker.

Our 5th episode features first gen Iranian DJ, design engineer, and environmentalist, zahremaar, who transitioned us from sunset into twilight hour at our second Anemone party (DTLA, March '24).

A note from zahremaar:
The anemone team gave me what is undeniably the best vibe prompt I’ve ever been given: “Dubbed out textural minimal groovers embodying the intricate and entrancing movement of a feather star.” Dubbed out textural groovers are a space of music I’ve been collecting for years and love dearly — I usually reserve a lot of these tracks for last-leg afters hangs when the sun has come up and brains are mush. I went into the set with a folder of tracks knowing I wanted to begin with stripped down, groovy house belters, building energy towards psychedelic, bassline driven minimal. I started ~7 minutes after 6:30, so I adjusted my timing a bit to let Daphni’s ‘Xing Tian’ (looove) breathe its mighty organs to send the sun past the horizon at 7:07pm. I then transitioned into a sound that represents what I imagine rubbing a feather star on one’s forehead would feel like: gentle, persistent, wiggly diggly — made even more tripped out by long, imperfect blends with three decks. So thankful to the anemone team for trusting me, to the friends who shook their butts, and for the opportunity to be able to share this mix with you all.

The EP by Bézier “Negative Velocity” sees the Californian artist (now for a few years a Berlin resident) initiate the launch of their new German-based record label @korperspannung

Bézier, whose career (since the early 00’s) spans nearly two decades of focused, ground laying work: from lighting up the Honey Soundsystem collective’s bulbs to generating a steady pulse of releases on Josh Cheon’s Dark Entries records, has built a dynamic repertoire weaving a mosaic of influences across cultures, generations and spaces. A lifelong learner of music from an early age Robert Yang has been under constant calling to deploy music in an artful, stylish and meaningful way.

For ‘Negative Velocity’, Bézier collaborated with Bay Area drummer and avant-garde musician Dave Easlick taking live recordings of him on a drum kit warping and wrapping his parts into curves and ellipses that project mappings outward into the atmosphere. From Easlick’s source material Bézier generates a technological, multi-dimensional landscape through mental manipulation of sound waves bending the fabric of time and space. For both the title track and on the b-side ‘Diabolical Embroidery’ the lattice work here involved sampling and resampling every hit and puncture from Easlick to atomize, pressurize, polish and disintegrate into fine particulate matter while reassembling parts back together fortifying the sonic tapestry further and further and further… 

‘Deep Sea State’ is an exercise showcasing the raw form of Easlick’s drumming but laced with an adamantium frame. Melodies from Bézier’s musical training past haunt the entire interlude.

Bézier - Negative Velocity (Snippets)

Co-founder LA rave crew and soundsystem Corduroy Garden, JdB is a live hardware artist and vinyl DJ. Romanced by the Berlin club sound, he conjures a meditative dance floor energy harkening back to the pioneers of dub techno, employing DAW-less electronics and dabbling in modular synthesis. He departs from the Berlin tradition with lysergic flourishes and moments of biting minimalism and tribal tom patterns. His releases on labels such as Pseudonote explore astrological and (of course) nautical themes. He has worked previously with artists such as Undercurrent from LA label New Palm and Zero Idea of Bay Area collective Vitamin1k.
