Last year during the height of the pandemic, our friends over at Continental Drifts were raising money to support themselves through a challenging year. 

To support them we put together this mix which was recorded on top of their barge which resides on the River Lee. Sadly, due to unforeseen setbacks, we never released this set, but thankfully we are able to put it out now.

This mix has a meaning behind it, it's a symbol of people coming together in aid of a community and culture we believe in. In a time of being apart, coming together to make this mix really lifted our spirits. 

Expect a journey down a more Jazzy route than what I normally play. It's full of great tunes that have inspired me alongside original brass lines which were played live by dat Brass on the day. I hope you enjoy and thanks for listening.

This mix was performed on 1 Numark TT1610 belt drive turntable with original needles, 1 Stanton SA3 mixer complete with a lighter strapped to it with string to keep the broken right side fader depressed so that it works (you need to see it), an Oxygen25 midi keyboard, a Medion lap top and Serato SL1. It took about 50 takes, mainly due to technical hitches. Apologies for the poor scratching I was up against it. Dj-ing is not a poor man's game, boo hoo. Also its in mono, feking dodgy cables. Enjoy!

Many moons ago (about 10 years actually, wow!) we booked everyone's favourite party starters The Nextmen to play at our NICE UP! night at The Jazz Cafe, London. They kindly did us a reggae and dancehall mix which was hosted by Spine Magazine at the time. We gave out CDs to everyone that came on the night too.

After having a bit of a lockdown clearout we found a copy at the back of a cupboard so thought we should upload it for you to check. Solid selection!

Shepdog gives us an insight into the inspiration for this new Mixtape which we can't get enough of here at Minirig HQ! 

"I wanted to show some of my influences as a young kid, discovering and buying dance music for the first time around 1990/91. I don't seem to remember there being defined genre names back then - it all seemed to come under the umbrella of "rave". It's obvious there's a massive Jamaican and Soundsystem influence on a lot of this music - reggae and dancehall samples and basslines mixed with ruff breaks and beats; a formula which undoubtedly helped shape later genres such as jungle, drum and bass, garage, dubstep, etc and has been a huge influence on NICE UP! as a label"
